The rooms with the four-poster beds, complete with antique furniture and acres of space are fantastic. The newly refurbished decor is authentic period but with warmth and taste, so you don't feel like you are in a museum.
The small elegant bar for guests only is a big bonus and then there's the guest lounge which is an outstandingly beautiful room.
Staff were all friendly and extremely helpful. Breakfast offered a full range including fresh fruit.
A real gem which I would recommend wholeheartedly.

I have been staying at the Lincoln House Hotel every week since May 2006 whilst working in Cardiff.
The property and it's accommodation has had substantial work carried out on throughout the period I've stayed (new roof, internal decorating etc) which has been done with minimal interference and the staff have always tried to locate me away from any 'inconvenience' such as the smell of paint!
Every kind of breakfast you could want is available daily and made freshly to order. The staff are always welcoming and friendly and helped me with advice on finding my way around Cardiff when I first arrived. I will miss my 'home from home' when I finally have to move on!!
This is a real gem of a guest house. It's in a good location, about a 10-15 minute stroll from the shopping centre.
It's very much in the style of a guest house rather than a hotel, but rather than a faceless bland chain hotel that you'd get for the same price, this is a charming building with bags of character and period features.
The breakfasts are wonderful, all cooked to order, with a few Welsh twists!

The Lincoln is good, but it's not amazing. It's certainly nowhere near as fantastic as the previous reviews might lead you to believe. There's nothing wrong with the place, but I was expecting great things and ended up being slightly underwhelmed.
When I'm in Cardiff I normally stay at the Beaufort B&B, which is also on Cathedral Road. However, the Beaufort was fully booked. Largely on the basis of the glowing reviews I read on this site, I decided to try the Lincoln. I was staying with several colleagues, one of whom was from abroad and who had never visited Wales before.
When we arrived at the hotel, it was covered in scaffolding. Now, I didn't really care about the scaffolding, but it didn't make the best impression. My colleague from overseas thought it meant the hotel was falling down and made a huge fuss about it. He was won over by the old-fashioned charm of the public drawing room, however.
My room was pretty clean, although slightly shabby around the edges. The shower cubicle was miniscule (just as well I'm small). I couldn't help but compare this to the immaculate decor and spacious bathrooms of the similarly-priced Beaufort. I found my room to be a bit noisy as it overlooked the main road. If you're planning on staying here and are a light sleeper, try asking for a room at the back.
Overall, I found the staff to be helpful and polite, although I did get rather 'abrupt' service at breakfast when I dared to ask for decaff coffee (which was advertised on the menu as being available). It also took them a very, very long time to respond to my email enquiries. The lady who was at reception when we arrived couldn't have been more helpful, though, and she was able to recommend nearby pubs and restaurants.
I don't want to put people off staying here, as it's a pleasant hotel with decent facilities and a (mostly!) friendly atmosphere. The location is also excellent. However, I don't think it deserves the rave reviews it's had. It's good, but not outstanding. And let's hope the scaffolding vanishes sometime soon.
