Great hotel, close to the m4 but noise doesnt affect you. Reception staff are very couteous and helpful, the rooms are of average size but clean and nicely decorated. The leisure facilities at this hotel are excellent, sauna, steam room, a couple of jacuzzis a big fitness suite and a big pool, you cant ask for more for this price!!
We had a good breakfast, plenty of choice and good service, and the evening meals are good if a little pricy, but thats expected in a hotel.
I would recommened this hotel and will be staying there again sometime soon!

2 Nov 2008 | Trip type: Family

My husband and 2 boys (14 and 3) have just spent 2 nights at The Village Hotel in Cardiff.
We were a little worried with some of the other reviews about noise etc, but need not have worried at all.

Everything was great. Room 601 was in the new wing and plenty big enough for the 4 of us. The sofa bed was fine for the boys. We found the room clean with all the essentials there, the iron was a great touch too. Shower was great... remember your own toiletries!

Breakfast was the start to the day those who enjoy food deserve. Cereals, fresh fruit salads, pastries, full English (Welsh?)breakfast. We were early risers so did not have any queues, but I was told they can happen near finishing time.

We were out during the day so ate in the bar early evening to allow the little one to get to bed. 2 meals for £12 was a fantastic deal.... wonderful choice and quality of food was above average. Once they were upstairs we could then sit in the bar relaxing...we certainly did.

The health spa was a treat.... towels provided. I even took a book and lounged for a while looking out the floor to ceiling glass... bliss.

No this hotel is not luxury but was a fantastic choice for a mini break. I have no hesitation in recommending it, we would stay again.

  • Liked — Freindly staff, great breakfast....good sized room
  • Disliked — paying for my newspaper!

Having read some of the reviews on Tripadvisor I was a little apprehensive. I booked two nights bed and breakfast in one of their king rooms and got a good rate direct with the hotel. It was a little difficult to find as I forgot to take directions. Car parking is vast as is the hotel. Our king room was in the new wing which is a fair trek but the room was spacious with a large and very comfortable bed and a sofa which doubles up as a sofabed. The bathroom was fine and the heating could be adjusted easily. There is no air conditioning and the windows only open a bit so in hot weather it could be stifling. A second set of towels are hidden in a drawer which is rather strange and there is a limited range of toiletries but the hotel did provide a sewing kit free of charge when requested. Staff were friendly at reception and in the dining room but one male bar staff in the pub clearly wasn't enjoying his job! The food in the pub was just OK but once was enough. However the breakfast was superb and hot with a great selection. Queues built up to be seated and this was clearly due to disorganisation and lack of staff. One girl placed you at a table, took the order for tea or coffee, served it before going to offer a seat to the next guests. We attended a wedding reception at the hotel and again the food was first class and the service professional. The leisure facilities looked good but we didn't use them. The main criticism I would have was that the walls were thin so the rooms could be noisy and anyone passing in the corridor could be heard. Even if they weren't talking which they invariably were, the squeaking floorboards were very much in evidence. I probably wouldn't stay at the Village again by choice if I was visiting Cardiff but we had a very pleasant stay and it was certainly better than expected.

  • Liked — Good breakfast and spacious king room
  • Disliked — Noise came from the corridors and squeaking floorboards.

We got a B&B rate of £75 per night for the two of us. Having read other reviews we knew there was some construction in the area, as new apatments are built (but you should not let that put you off as there was not noise and thw work is well away from the hotel. The hotel lobby is modern and much nicer than I was expecting, check in was efficient., friendly and informative. The bedroom was large, clean and very comfortable, we even had a sea view. Breakfast was a good if not exception buffet.
There is a Restaurant and a seperate bar which also does food. We only tried the Victory Bar. Both meals we had were good, if you go 12-5.30 Monday to Satuarday there are some deals when you buy two meals.
The higlhight of the Hotel is the Fitness Centre. There is a big gym with weights, machines and cardio equipment. The 25 metre pool, spa, sauna and steam room are all top notch.

Overall, the hotel is a real bargin and ideal for exploring the area.

  • Liked — Great value, great fitness facilities.
  • Disliked — Nothing

Supposed to be a family friendly hotel.. 1 double bed and a sofa bed with a 2inch thick mattress... which was useless, kept falling into the middle of the sofabed so not easy to sleep in it at all.
Nothing for kids to do except swimming.
No shower gel / shampoo / toilet roll/ biscuits for tea/coffee...provided in the room.
15min walk to get train into Cardiff... was okay if it wasn't raining. Better having a car with you.
Service in bar for food wasn't great either... dirty plates left lying on the table etc...

  • Liked — It was clean
  • Disliked — sofabed mattress was extremely thin and sank in the middle.
