Stayed here for one night to go to an event in Cardiff Bay. It was MUCH better value than any hotels in the city centre/Bay area. We paid £65 for a double mid week.

The hotel is easy to find and has a good size car park. It's surrounded by a very busy road but we didn't hear any traffic unless the window was open. I'm sure if we'd stayed in the centre/Bay there'd be more noise throughout the night!

The reception area is very nice and the staff were efficient and friendly when checking in.

We had a standard room overlooking the lake - where there was even some wildlife! The room was spacious and nicely decorated although the bathroom could do with a little TLC.

We didn't have breakfast at the hotel due to the additional cost.

I would definitely book again IF the price was right.

“Absolutely fabulous!”

Copthorne Hotel Cardiff Caerdydd

This has got to be very high up on my list of favourite modern hotels. Travelling with my mother, who uses a wheelchair, we were upgraded to a splendid suite style room with separate bedroom and sitting room areas, beautifully decorated, and view nice views over a large duckpond. Staff could not do enough to help us. I thoroughly enjoyed the swimming pool and leisure centre, and I could see that they have a large gym fit for the most enthusiastic and dedicated user. Food in the bar was lovely, although service is not very quick if you happen to be in a hurry. The chocolate pudding is tremendous! Raglan's dining room offers delicate and sumptusous evening meals. There is a lovely cosy fire in the lobby. Parking is good and the hotel is located just on the edge of the city, convenient for the open-air museum at St. Fagan's and an almost direct drive into the city centre. Cardiff is a lovely friendly city that makes for en excellent happy weekend choice.

We have again stayed at this excellent hotel on the outskirts of Cardiff. We booked direct by email with the hotel and yet again received really friendly, helpful and efficient service from David Crompton, one of their Reservations Agents. When we arrived we were delighted with our room which had a separate bedroom area which gave us lots more room for the extra bed for our grand daughter. Again we had a lovely view of the lake. This time we had dinner at the hotel which we had not tried before and found the meal to be excellent and together with the delicious breakfasts, it made a great weekend. We come to Cardiff very often for the weekend and have tried many hotels over the years but this one looks set to become our favourite for future visits!

The only criticism I had before was the blue blankets which I have read about from other people's reviews - but what has happened to them? Not a blue blanket in sight this time, they seem to have been replaced by duvets!

“Good enough”

A good location and easy parking once, if you don't know the area, you circumnavigate the Culverhouse Cross roundabout . Hotel entrance area is pleasant and staff are obliging. There was a mix up with my booking as they booked me in thinking I was someone else and gave me a standard room. When I said I had a Club called a 'Connoisseur' room booking this was quickly changed. At £95 a night it was fairly good value but didn't include breakfast but did include 'Club Lounge' access on the 4th floor. Room was a little dated but spacious and clean. It had a big bed (2 singles fastened together) and thankfully, a duvet rather than sheets and blankets. One annoying thing was the air conditioning that couldn't be turned off. The room overlooked the small artificial lake and the city which was quite pleasant and there was excellent double glazing. The temperature was fine but the drone from the air conditioning was constantly there! There was no safe in the room which could be a problem but there is a facility at Reception. Nothing else to say about the room as it was standard 4* and served the purpose. The Club Lounge was small with a TV, computer access but no facility for printing (frustrating if you want to check in for a flight on line) and a coffee making facility with cold juices and milk in the fridge. The Club Room at the Hilton beats it hands down and it would be better to charge more and have the free drinks and canapes in the evening like most good hotels. There are several sofas and I liked the fact that I could just nip in there when I wanted without it being manned - the room key operates the Club Lounge door. One quite bizarre thing was the Club Room breakfast that is available in the price of the room. It must be that most guests are on a B&B rate rather than room only. The Club Room breakfast was available from about 6am which was good for early risers who have a business day ahead. Coffee was luke warm (the machine said it needed descaling) and the fruit juice was OK. The food consisted of some packets of cereals, a bowl of fuit, several yoghurts in a bowl of ice and a plate with some packets of smoked or Baby Bel cheese and three slices of ham! Why there were three slices of ham I don't know. All of this came without any bread or rolls so you could pack out on the protein but forget the carbs. Still, a coffee, yoghurt and a few grapes were all I wanted but this needs addressing. I have stayed three times in Cardiff recently, once at the Holiday Inn Express at the airport, once at the Hilton in the city centre and yesterday at the Copthorne. Best value for money is undoubtedly the Holiday Inn Express where I have booked next time for £39 for two of us and that includes breakfast!! Luxury is definitely the Hilton with an Executive Room or Suite but it costs. Somewhere in the between at double the price of the Holiday Inn Express is the Copthorne. Would I use it again, yes I would if on business but would I pay for it myself, probably not as I would go for value for money or luxury and that is not what the Copthorne is unless, like the previous reviewer, you get a great rate for the Dinner Show but even then, you probably need to pay a bit more to get the upgrade. My son stayed at the Copthorne last week in a standard room (admittedly, only £50 for the saturday night) but he said he was disappointed and that it was dated. So yes, good enough for an overnight stay but did it stand out, not really

“What a deal. Excellent Theatre show and very good hotel”

I had noticed the hotel offered a theatre evening with dinner included. Our break only cost £59 for a 3 course dinner, show and B&B. We had stayed at another hotel on the Friday night at £92 in the centre of Cardiff to go to a concert, but this hotel was somewhat better. The hotel is a little way out of Cardiff and therefore is not so handy if you are choosing the venue with Cardiff City Centre in mind. The room was extremely nice with a very large bed. On arrival, we were told that we needed to be in the bar for 7.15pm to be escorted to the show. We were shown down to a private room with about 100 other guests for the show and a 3 course meal. The team who put on the show of songs from musicals, were fantastic and of extremely high quality. There was a bar in the room. The food was also excellent and coupled with the entertainment it was an superb couple of hours at an unbelieveable price. We then went back to the bar for a few drinks. If I have any gripe then once again, I do feel that hotels tend to make their money back on the price of drinks, especially spirits. A double Cinzanno and lemonade and a pint of Guiness came to £11.40 ( saying that it was only £3.20 for the Guiness). But then again the rest of the deal was so good. The breakfast was very good with a wide selection of cooked and pastries. The cooked food was piping hot and of very good quality. Well done Copthorne. We will be going back with friends, it costs more to go out for a meal and drinks at home than to have a nice night away with entertainment included.
