We stayed at this hotel on teh outskirts of Cardiff just off the A48.

As other reviewers have stated our experience was pretty dire:

1) Mattress lumpy (similar to sleeping on a pillowcase stuffed with rocks and bits of foam) and sloping which meant no sleep

2) Dripping shower...with only one towel. We rang for another and were brought a selection of bath mats.

2) Delightful view of dual carriageway and of course the noise of hundreds of vehicles travelling at speed right outside your window...again contributing to sleep deprivation

3) Shabby, run down, and smelling oddly of stale chip fat

4) The epitome of bad hotel breakfasts: concrete scrambled eggs, raw bacon, no fresh fruit, and all for the princely sum of £11.50 a head.

Be warned this is an old Moat House Hotel and has not been renovated or kept up to standard in 20 odd years. The duty manager did say it’s due to be refurbished later this year. Stayed at this hotel for one night. Was given a room which smelt of mould and had one wall badly painted in the Park Inns corporate red, more suited to an Amsterdam hotel!!! I got moved to another family room which was not much better. Kettle had mould in it, wallpaper coming off walls, paint flaking from ceiling in bathroom, doors with flaking paint… the list goes on. Oh and if you thought you’d book this because it has a pool, don’t, the leisure centre is more like a run down council pool! You have to walk through reception to get to the pool and the shower at the side of the pool didn’t work! Also very run down.

The room was in desperate need of renovation. The room was a twin share. One of the beds had a saggy mattress. The carpet had holes. Not the standard that one expects of a 3 star park inn hotel. The room lacked noise insulation both from the adjacent motorway and neighboring rooms. The gym and pool were ok but most of the equipment was quite old and in need of an update. The breakfast menu was very average for the price being asked.

Please be aware - there are 2 Park Inns in Cardiff - one central Cardiff (thus reviews refering to noise) - the other North of Cardiff - this is where we have stayed on 3 seperate occassions.

The Park Inn North is in need of a re-fit & on previous stays we took issue ref quality of breakfast / dinner & service.

However, we stayed 2 nights at the end of December 2007 & it was a pleasant stay.

Rooms ok - in need of updating.
Staff friendly & helpful.
Breakfast good.

If you stay here look for a deal on internet!

It is not as bad as some reviews say.
