If you stay in a Travelodge you know it's going to be basic. How basic was a bit of a surprise though. You don't even get shower gel and shampoo in the bathroom, which is not pleasant to discover at 7.30am in the morning when you desperately need to wash your hair and all you've got is a bar of soap.
Another major irritation was having to reactivate your keycard every day. I've never come across that before, and it was just one of those little things that bugs you. A bit like not having a towel rail in the bathroom, which was something else this place lacked. And the cheap thin duvet which just about kept you warm. And the inexplicable gang of youths in the lobby every day (who seemed to know the receptionist and treat it as somewhere to keep warm). It doesn't sound like much but it all adds up.
I can't complain about the room itself. It wasn't massive, the view overlooked a carpark, there was no minibar, and I was on the floor above a Walkabout Pub which meant I could hear faint music till late, but then you get what you pay for.
I know these places are economy and "no frills", but this place got on my nerves. You can get other hotels in the area for a similar price, which is what I'll be doing in the future.
