We booked the room at short notice and it being August we were surprised to still find rooms aavailable. Our prefered choice the Manor House had no vacancies. Maybe we should have twigged something there and then!
The hotel was nicely situated with good views of Mull etc. The rooms were tastefully decorated. Our bedroom was a good size but had no telephone and poor quality TV and only the basic 4 channels. The bathroom was small having to dry oneself in the bedroom after a bath because of lack of space, being no room to swing a bath towel!!!
The arrangements for dinner were somewhat regimented. Everyone had to be in the bar between 7 and 7 30 to place their order. So that meant that it was rather crowded before we all went into the dining room. It was fortunate perhaps the hotel was half- full.

The food we had was very average and lacked imagination. The service was a bit amateurish e.g no water jugs provide they would top up your glass up when you asked. There was very little if any delay between courses , as soon as we downed our knife and fork from the starter the main course was put in front of us! So other nights we ate the starter very slowly!!
It seemed that they were anxious to get dinner over and done with as quick as possible Perhaps the chef was paid by the hour!

Breakfast itself was good although we found the time a bit restrictive. Serving only between 8.30 to 9.30 We would have preferred from 8 so we could get on with the days visits etc.

We did not find the hostess the most amiable of people. This was also mentioned by an earlier contributor.

All in all we were extremely disappointed with our stay and considering the rate of £204 per night we would have expected better quality accommodation, facilities, food and service. Needless to say we would not recommend this hotel. WE WILL DEFINITELY NOT BE BACK.
Next time we are in Oban we will try the Manor House.

We're just back from a night's dinner, bed & breakfast at Dungallan House Hotel. It was a last minute decision to go away and they just happened to have a room left (Room 5, the room with the four poster bed in it).

Although we didn't really want to pay as much as £102 per person per night (total bill incl wine & after dinner drinks was £250) we both thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

The staff couldn't have been more attentive. The chef even prepared a fillet of beef for me despite the fact beef wasn't on that evening's menu. Breakfast was a real feast too.

The decor in the hotel is fairly traditional but to a high standard. The couple who run it, Mike & Marion have been gradually doing it up over the past 6 years.

All in all I would definitely recommend Dungallan House Hotel. It is a little bit more expensive than some other places locally but nice for a treat or just 1 or 2 nights away.

Our welcome at Dungallan house was extremely friendly and helpful and this concern for our enjoyment was reflected in the rest of our stay. Mike went out of his way to accommodate our requests and was incredibly flexible - nothing seemed to be too much trouble.

The food was good, fresh and very plentiful (if you eat breakfast and dinner here you will need to run up a few munroes to burn off those calories). Rooms were comfortable with some nice touches (touch lamps at the bedside). The service was absolutely top-notch and all the staff were uniformly friendly and helpful - they had clearly been extremely well-trained but also gave the impression the hotel was a good place to work.

I would certainly both recommend this hotel and stay here again - it wasn't full when we visited - I can't imagine why not. It's well placed for the ferry port and the town centre.
