“Wonderful 5* guest house, equivalent or better than top 5* hotel.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2009

This was our second visit to the Maplehurst guest house, we had stayed there 6 years ago to attend a wedding in Galashiels.
It was very good 6 years ago, but Derek and Linda have taken it to another level of excellence, we had a wonderful 4 nights stay this October. Derek and Linda have recently refurbished in line with the 1906 period of the house, and Linda has utilised her excellent arts and craft knowledge to tastefully add furnishings and paintings to complement each room. Breakfast at Maplehust is a wonderful experience, excellent choices available to suit everyone, cooked to perfection by Linda. Derek has a great personality and ensures everyone is relaxed and enjoying the ambiance of the breakfast room, a great way to start the day. I concur with everything the previous reviewers of the Maplehurst have said, because we had the same experiences as them, which is the biggest compliment I can pay Derek and Linda,
Thank you for a wonderful stay.
Jimmy and Val.

“stylish guest house”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2009

we stayed here for a friends wedding, and we were seriously impressed. I had never stayed in a guest house before normally favouring larger boutique hotels, but i couldnt fault it. Its immaculate and has fabulous toiletries, a truly fab place to stay and food was excellent. The owners were lovely too very welcoming it was a shame that we only stayed one night.

“Not enough superlatives can be used to describe this fantastic guest house.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2009

We stayed at this guest house for just one night prior to driving up to Edinburgh as a weekend getaway and truly wished we had stayed the whole weekend as this is one of the finest places we have ever stayed and felt completely welcomed by Derek and Linda the owners. We can only re-iterate what the other reviewers have said before us

There are not enough superlatives to describe how fantastic this guest house is and how welcome we were made but suffice to say we will be going back as soon as we can and will recommend it to all our friends and family and anyone else who is looking to stay in the area.

5* treatment in every way. Many thanks derek and Linda.

Martin and Alex Aston.

“A Delight, a wonderful house, a luxurious room, excellent service and attention to detail”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2009

We stayed for two nights and did not want to leave. We arrived late on Friday evening after a taxi ride form the airport (which was a discounted traiff due to staying at Maplehurst), we were greated by Derek and Linda who were fanatasic hosts, a warm fire and a night cap (I had a fine quality whiskey and my wife a herbal tea- opposites attract!). The house has a unique feel and its influences from the art and crafts movement are apparent.

The room was probably one of the best we have stayed in (as good as any 5* hotel). Lovely decor, high quality linen, comfy bed, great view of gardens, immaculately clean and tidy. Personal touches like the dressing gown and slippers were a nice touch and everything in the room was of a high standard. The bathroom was also of a high standard and that included the Scottish Purdee's toileteries. The seating area upstairs also has a fridge, which is well stocked with complimenary drinks and confectionary.

The breakfast was absoultely delicious (never had better in any Guest House or Hotel). Linda has a real passion for food, which is demonstrated in the high quality food on offer. This included Dorset cereals, fresh fruit, and a range of home prepared compotes (different ones appeared each morning). The cooked breakfast was a delight and a I would reccomend the french toast with Maple Syrup!

I would strongly reccomend this high quality Guest House to all. We were very well looked after by Linda and Derek who made us feel extremely welcome and they were very helpful and friendly, whilst being respectful of their guests privacy. Their obvious love for what they do and their attention to detail is what sets this apart from the rest, the wedding we attended was in Melrose (3 miles away) but we are so pleased we opted to stay at Maplehurst.

A real treasure to match its beautiful location within the Scottish Borders.

“AMAZING, FANTASTIC, NOT TO BE MISSED”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2009

From the moment you turn into the drive this amazing house you are awe struck by its beauty. The original features, stained glass, fires etc take you back to the 1920's and into the arts and crafts movement. The hosts Linda and Derek are the most friendly, hospitable couple we have ever met. From the tea and biscuits on arrival, booking the restaurant and taxi to the glass of wine waiting for us when we were waiting for the taxi - what more do you want. Then there was breakfast - homemade muffins, homemade fruit compotes - I just want to live there forever. We were taking our daughter to Uni locally and the and the emotional support was also much appreciated - especially the food hamper of muffins Linda packed for my daughter that morning.
I am only frightened that you all go and we can't get booked again.
