Stayed at the Cairndale Hotel for the first time and found the staff reluctant to give out any useful information. i.e. times for breakfast check out time or the way to our room which was up a flight of stairs through the door at the top of the stair along the corrider through the next set of doors turn right then turn left through the next set of doors along the corrider through a set of doors go up one flight of stairs turn left through the door turn left and we were there. The room was compact but clean . Glad we were only staying for one night. The menu in the restruant left a lot to be desired we decided to eat elswhere.
Breakfast was lovely it was self service but warm and plenty to choose from. I think the staff and management should have a training day and learn to comunicate with the guests after all its the guests that keep them in a j

When we entered the hotel it reminded us of the film 'The Shinning' We awnted to see what champagne they had as we were looking for a place for our wedding reception. Bar man said they diont do champagne but can offer us Blackthorn Cider!!! During the night we were woken up with doors banging. Breakfast was served from Chaffron dishes which was okay but very 70's. Staff were rude and there must be a no smiling policy with the staff. Very disapointing stay.

We arrived in Dumfries and decided on this hotel as we drove in, purley on the way it looked. we managed to get the last double room which was very small but clean and comfortable. The bath was shabby looking with marks on the bottom of it and cracked on the bath panel - not good when you pay £100 per night!
Check in was effiecient and the reception staff were friendly, alhtough gave minimal information on arrival regarding breakfast / check out times and such like.
We decided to stay at the hotel for the evening meal, we really should have just gone to the chip shop. For £23 each, we had a three course meal. We ordered a good bottle of wine, which the waitress struggled to open. My husband said he would, so he did so, and the waitress walked away - not even bothering to pour it. For over twenty pounds, surely this is the service I am meant to be paying for!I could have bought a bottle for half the price across the road from morrisons!
the food was a disgrace. Our soup came out before we got our wine or bread. The main dish was reheated, shrivelled and rather tasteless. The desserts were good. The service was just appalling. The staff are all Eastern European and have some difficulty in understanding basic requests as well as lacking greatly in customer service skills.
Breakfast was ridiculous. the staff did not seem to understnad that the tables should be cleared to enable paying customers to sit at them to enjoy breakfast. The choice at breakfast was very good, however, the food was not always topped up so people were waiting for juice, coffee and plates alot of the time. Toast was seved at the table, again this took time. the staff ran around like headless chickens but achieved little.
My recommendation would be to train up the waiting staff, get a new chef and this hotel would be worthy of its three stars!

Stayed in this hotel over Christmas and the christmas dinner was processed turkey and tasteless. The buffet lunch at night was the worst ever, all the left overs from the dinner in the middle of the day. We left our turkey lunch as it was so bad. It was money lost and we wish we had stayed at home. It was a bus tour and we wish we had gone to the other hotels in Dunkeld or the Winnock as the people in the parties there said their food was brought down to the tables in lovely serving dishes and it was so tasty. Our christmas dinner was smothered in gravy and we do not like gravy for a start. You would have needed binoculars to see the christmas pudding in the plate. We had a letter from the Owner but, of course, we were only making this up as usual. Never Again, John and Jean Watt

Have just returned from an overnight stay at this hotel. I booked it because it looked a nice hotel and was good value for money, with access to the leisure club.
On arrival the hotel looked nice, but with no signs diirecting to the car park. When I finally did find the entrance I got the very last parking place although the car park is fairly large. On check in I waited a good 15 mins whilst the one receptionist checked in a group of six guests (at least one appeared to be already drunk)
Single room was small but acceptable as it was only for one night and was reasonably comfortable, I had to go out for the evening to visit my mother in hospital (the reason for my trip)when I returned there was the same parking problem, with cars parked on pavements etc.
The bar by reception was closed and only the bar in one of the function rooms was open, not a very comfortable place to have a relaxing drink as the DJ was in setting up for the evenings entertainment, I gave up after one pint and went to my room for an early night. I had about one hours sleep before the disco started, music booming very loudly throughout the hotel. This carried out until 1:30 am, intersperced with loud drunken guests coming and going along the corridor until 3am.
The only plus I could say for this hotel was that the breakfast was good with plenty of choice (well there was when I went down at 7:30am)
All in all not a good night in what was already a stressful weekend
