We were greeted by the kilt wearing chef and owner of the property on arrival and made to feel very welcome. Our room was the last double available and had a shared bathroom with the single room next door which was not a problem! I fully enjoyed the hot whiskey free in the room and a very good sleep in a comfortable and very clean bed! The breakfast was excellent and both the hosts chatted and gave us information we needed about finding someone in town! Would fully recommend staying here and would love to return soon myself!

Emma and Robertson are the most gracious hosts you will have the pleasure of meeting on your trip to Scotland. My wife and I stayed two nights in their wonderful home on our three week honeymoon. Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer! The accomodations are first rate, the hosts wonderful, and the breakfast will carry you until dinner. Be sure to take advantage of the complimentary dram of whisky every day in your room...Robertson doesn't believe in cheap booze!

Ferintosh is an excellent base for day trips all over the south of Scotland. Caeverlock Castle, Threave Castle and Sweetheart Abbey are mere 30 minute drives. If staying in big cities is not for you then a day trip to Edinburgh is also a viable option from here (we won't stay in Edinburgh again).

Our next trip back will include a longer stay at Ferintosh...and, by the way, about that train station...we slept with the window open both nights...never heard a train, or a whistle, or an anouncement on the P.A. system...we slept wonderfully.

Just back from a weekend staying at the Ferintosh. An extremely comfortable guest house. The owners made me feel very welcome, the room was comfortable, and the breakfasts outstanding. The different 'wee dram' each night in my room was a great finishing touch. Just like a home from home, but with someone else doing the cooking and cleaning.

“The Best!”

Ferintosh is simply best place to stay in Dumfries and possibly in all of Scotland. Emma and Robertson asked us to write a review (and told us about Tripadvisor) we are happy to write this review.
Luckily we found Ferintosh our third night in Dumfries. (at the end of our two week vacation in Scotland.) We had booked into a 3 star Hotel in Dumfries but after the first night we chose to try our luck in a B&B. The hotel was dirty, worn out, and expensive. The second night we checked into a 4 star B&B that was inexpensive but really nothing special… we would have stayed a second night but they only had a single room available. So after trying the VisitScotland office (it was closed!) we lucked upon Ferintosh. They are not part of Visitscotland and have no stars- but clearly they should have 5 stars.
As other reviews here have said; Emma and Robertson are the best. The room was not huge but very clean, very comfy bed linens, and it even had REAL paintings of scotch distilleries on the walls, not the usual cheap prints other places have. The complimentary single malt scotch was a treat as were the After 8 mints. They were the only place in Scotland with a large enough bath towels (the only one with washcloths too!) Ferintosh was also the ONLY place in Scotland to give us complimentary scotch!
Emma and Robertson helped us plan were to go and what castles to see (no one else had bothered to help us.) They also help us find local internet access (free- at the library) and their recommendation for dinner was a pub called Cavans. It was also terrific.
Ferintosh cost us 4 pounds more than the other B&B (and 50 pounds less than the hotel!) but it was worth twice the price. Skip the others- go straight to Ferintosh, in fact skip Visitscotland too- they take money for every reservation you make (and also from the B&B!) and their ‘star system’ is meaningless. (after using them to book 5 different hotels and B&B’s in Scotland, we think they are a giant waste of time and money!) If we ever go back to Scotland we will start at Ferintosh!
We are now off to see Calverock castle and soon back home. We have loved Scotland.

For our next vacation we will use Tripadvisor to find B&B's!
