arrived friday 30th may 08,for our daughters wedding on the 31st,our rooms where ready but 1 wasn't and eventually got it at 4pm,there was 19 in our party and we all found the accomodation good, not excellent but what do you want from a well used venue, our room was lovely room 9,only problem with this room was it was the first 1 on the corridor,as you came through from the reception area and some people had no respect for people who where in bed,as they where leaving the recetion rooms of their party, but when you are on a high from your celebrations i suppose this could be acceptable,we had 2 rooms on the first floor and the 2nd floor 217 was very nice,my daughter had a wedding suit which was very nice, the bar area was ok but did have well worn chairs around bar staff well worked not enough to cope with the amount of people there, the bar snacks very good, and the restaraunt for breakfats was lovely staff very well mannered and very quick,i looked on trip advisor before we went and was dreading the visit for the reasons we were there but it was great had a lovely weekend

We always thank guests for their reviews and it is nice to see a positive review that shows the negatives are indicative of lone personal experiences. We at the Hotel pride ourselves on customer service and would assure all guests of a warm welcome.

We stayed here for three nights while we got married at Gretna Cottages.
We found our stay rather disappointing, the reception staff were very abrupt and rude when we checked in, they didn't even take time to tell us meal times or anything our only conversation was about paying the bill up front!
Our room was on the second floor and was extremely small and stuffy, the window barely opened.
We found the hotel clean and tidy and our room was cleaned daily at a time convenient to us which was useful.
The hotel entertainment was good but kept moving rooms each evening in order for them to accomodate wedding receptions, this would have been ok if they'd advertised where to go each evening to prevent us walking in on wedding parties. We asked at the bar one evening only to find that the barman didn't understand due to speaking very limited English.
We are not normally the type of couple to moan and complain about hotels, maybe we were expecting it to be more special having chosen it as the place to stay for our wedding.
As a whole we got the impression that the hotel staff are far more accomodating if you've booked a large wedding reception rather than a small private wedding which is the option we chose.
The hotel however is in a great location, a two minute walk to the train station which has a line to Glasgow and Carlisle. On a positive note the grounds of the hotel are gorgeous and very well maintained with plenty of seating areas.

At Gretna Hall we take all concerns of our guests seriously and l am always disturbed to find that a guest may have felt less than satisfied with customer service received.

The Hotel can be very busy during wedding periods but l would assure all prospective clients that our staff would never differentiate between parties and we aim to treat every customer with individual excellence.

I am sorry that some guests may feel we have let them down in this respect and would assure all parties that the Hotel is constantly reviewing and developing its customer service training.

Again we are always open to deal with any concerns at the Hotel and the Duty Management Team is always available.

We have just returned from a three night stay at Gretna Hall Hotel.
We are well travelled senior citizens but we did not look at Trip Advisor until after we had booked. We arrived with some trepidation and asked to see the room before committing ourselves and were prepared to leave if we had not found it acceptable. The room was large enough, spotlessly clean, with new pillows and the duvet cover was Egytian cotton.
The bathroom was modern and nicely tiled - with no sign of mildew as in some reports.
The food and service in the dining room was of a good standard - every member of staff was helpful and pleasant.
Yes, the carpets were worn in places - but that is because it is a tartan carpet rather than a hard wearing carpet.
The bar was the worst area and some of the furniture is very well worn. The bar was always full of groups of people from wedding parties - it would have been nice to have a quiet lounge too.
Overall it was a pleasant few days and we would be happy to return.

Always glad to see a good review and pleased that the Hotel Team is delivering the service our guests should expect.

We do recognise that the public areas could do with some work and would assure all prospective clients that a refurbishment project is underway.

Stayed on recommendation of friends, who always stay in Room 217. We'd asked, and been told we could have this room, but on arrival were given another room. We could have 217, but only if we paid an extra £40 for a 2 night stay. Lady on reception was very abrupt with us. Our room was at the back of the hotel. Corridor carpet was well worn in places, and our room was rather shabby. There were two mattreesses showing underneath the bed, and a wall picture had a piece of the frame hacked out. The lamb for the evening meal was covered in black pepper, and the rhubarb crumble was the stodgiest, most puzzling 'pastry' I've experienced on a crumble. At breakfast the fruit juices are undoubedtly watered down. None of this was the worse part though. Be warned if you have room 134, or similar, and there's evening entertainment, do not expect to get an early night. The floor in our room actually vibrated with the music. Overall a very disappointing experience.

The Management Team at the Gretna Hall Hotel always take pains to ensure an enjoyable stay and l am truly sorry that this review shows less than that.

In terms of specific room requests they are always at the discretion of the Hotel reservations team based upon occupancy and in some cases it is necessary to move rooms around based upon the needs of our many users.

The Hotel is a Wedding destination and most weekends there will be entertainment in the Anvil Restaurant. While we would usually try to place wedding guests in the rooms most affected by any potential noise it is possible that on some occasions we may not get it right first time but our Team are always happy to move rooms around if possible and at a guests request.

We are always happy to discuss any concerns and the reservations team will always try to resolve matters to everyones satisfaction.

“what a waste of such a lovely building”

Gretna Hall

18 Apr 2008

what can i say.myself and my partner visited the hotel as a possible venue for our forthcoming wedding, from the pictures the place looked perfect. On arrival we were allocated a double room,on entering the room we were disgusted to find that there was mold all round the window sill, the bed was made but the pillow cases were just slung on the bed and had not even been changed from the previous occupants, there were cobwebs hanging from the ceiling and punch marks in the walls, the room had been smoked in and was very small.we contacted reception who handled our complaint very well offering us a free upgrade to what they called an executive room (great we thought somthing for nothing) oh how wrong were we,the room was only slightly better, there was only one bar of soap for 2 people ballancing on a shelf barley secured to the wall ,the same could be said for our towel rail again just about managing to be fixed to the wall.We did try 2 other hotels for accomadation both fully booked ,i can see why.We met our guests in the bar later that evening and were shocked to see the standards continued throughout the hotel ,the carpets would not look out of place in a Steptoe and son episode, and as for the wingback chairs they were showing the sponge that was once hidden beneeth fine tartan fabric.
I must say that the hotel is dirty and very tired,however every member of staff we dealt with did ther duties very well, the food was good and the prices were ok.WE WILL NOT BE BACK;;;;;;;;;;;

At the Gretna Hall Hotel we always take customer reviews very seriously and must offer sincere apologies in regard to the unhappy experience noted by this guest.

While no excuse l would surmise that in this instance an unfortunate breakdown between housekeeping and reservations may have caused a room to be unprepared.

The Hotel is non-smoking as per the Law and l cannot see any circumstance in which the rooms could possibly be abused in that way, though of course people can and do smoke outside.

The decor is a regular point in these reviews and as said in regard to other reviews - a refurbishment plan is in place and we would always be happy to invite our guests back to show them the "real" Gretna Hall Hotel.
