We really expected a lot more with the money we spent on this room, especially considering it was the off or slow season. The room was small, dark and not particularly clean. The staff was not very plesant and the hotel seemed riduclously overstaffed for the hand full of people staying there.

Due to the fact so many things were closed in town including the two 'good' restaurants we ate dinner at the hotel. That was a mistake, we would have been better off getting snacks from the grocery around the corner.

I'd reccomend staying in Dumfries and making Kirkcudbright a side trip, and definately avoid this hotel. It needs an overall upgrade on bedding, linens, wallpaper, etc. and on attitude.

We have just returned from a 2 night weekend stay at this lovely hotel. We had a double room in the cottage building which was large & spacious & overlooked the hotels gardens. The bathroom was more than adequate with a large bath tub & very nice toiletries. We obtained a rate of £83 per room per night by advance purchase through the hotels web site.
The restaurant in the hotel was very pleasant with large patio windows overlooking the gardens. The scottish food we ate was well presented & tasted truly delicious. The staff were friendly, polite & very helpful. One of the mornings we did not make it to breakfast & we were telephoned by a member of the staff to see if we would like breakfast delivered to our room. You cant beat that for service I say.
