I have to echo the author of the previous review ('Rip off hotel') - I'm very unimpressed. I also attended a wedding at the 'castle' which was very nice and went very well. However, don't be tempted to stay the night.
When we arrived we were told that our room had a problem with the toilet (which I think was leaking). So we were transferred to another room by the very pleasant receptionist, Martha.
However, the room that we got was small and pokey - and I'm fairly sure that the room we were supposed to be in was much larger. Not only that, but there were the remains of someone's peanuts under the bed which did not convince me of the standards of cleanliness in the hotel.
The room was also tatty, with large chunks of paint work missing from the window frame and skirting boards. The TV was of the small portable type and had fairly average reception. The shower was not great either with fluctuating temperatures. The ceiling of the bathroom was covered in wall paper that was bubbling and starting to peel.
We asked for an iron - and this was brought promptly. But I think a hotel of this price should be able to supply a decent steam iron without crud all over the base of it.
There is a truly hideous building in the grounds which I think is the annex. You get a lovely view of it from the window in the dining room where we had breakfast. And talking about breakfast ... I had to send the toast back not once but twice, since I had asked for toast and not warm slices of bread. Any hotel that can't actually make toast doesn't really deserve your money - and certainly won't be taking any more of mine.
