Very good find in Kilmarnock. The biggest pluses: the room was very quiet--no vending machine outside, no ice machine, no elevator, no odd noises in the room or hallways. And, quiet outside! Our room faced a courtyard on the ground floor, but you could hear a pin drop.
Also, the bed was not unduly hard, nor soft--just right. Bedding clean, crisp, and not as rough as many others in this price range.
The room was fairly large for European standards. The bathroom had an excellent shower over the tub.
The staff were very helpful, attentive, and friendly.
The food was very good as well. My son ate off the children's menu and enjoyed a decent pizza.
It must be fairly new--everything was white and spotless. It had a cheerful aire about it.
Basically, the hotel is a good, clean, happy, quiet place. I was pleasantly surprised because we stayed at the Howard Park once and while we liked the staff and the meals the rooms were pretty small, the television small and basic, and the hotel was a bit worn. We pictured something like that, and so were surprised on arrival. The television was good sized and had many channels.
You don't get any big atmosphere, but the clean, sleek modern was a bit of a relief.
Breakfast was fine, even though the staff didn't really come round to offer coffee or tea to us, but when I hunted the waitress down she did bring it. Also, was not asked if I wanted toast and didn't realize they served it at breakfast until leaving and saw other diners with toast But I wouldn't blame the overall hotel for the lapses in the restaurant staff.
Only downside, but worked fine for us ,is that since it is built within a rugby park complex on certain days and certain times of the day (ie when there is a rugby game) the taxi cannot get closer than across the street. No bother, just got out of the taxi and walked across the street. Ask if you book how to handle luggage in or out of the hotel if the taxi can't get in when you arrive or depart.
I would definitely book there again if in Kilmarnock.
We paid about $150 per night, for a room with a double bed, breakfast included. My guess is you might get a better rate.
We literally got the last room in town and so were very happy to get it and again, surprised it turned out so nice. It is not within walking distance to the town center, but I don't know of any hotel in Kilmarnock that is.
