Well... talk about a perfect loction! We were there for Hogmanay. We weren't expecting alot because it was a last minute trip and 3 weeks before it was one of the onl places left to stay. But our room was very nice. The view was not great, but the room was. there were some cool lil bars right across the street. which was perfect for us. The walk to the castle took about 5 minutes. I would stay there again without a second thought. Still trying to figure out why they still had rooms??? And at a resonable price.

“Good value for money, clean, but tiny rooms”

I stayed one night recently at this hotel. It is within reasonable walking distance of the centre and was good value for money - I booked thru Expedia and it was £73 for the night, not including breakfast which is an additional £10.

The rooms are tiny although well equipped with TV, DVD player, coffee making facilities and a nice clean bathroom - actually a shower room as there is no bath. There was no chair for the desk, probably because there was no room for one - you could sit on the end of the bed to use the desk!

Internet access is free but the speed was very slow at peak time i.e. at 7pm it was almost unusable.

Avoid the food in the restaurant in the evening, it is not particularly cheap and not outstanding either. Breakfast is quite adequate though.

I booked a Superior Double room two months before our one night stay and mentioned that it was a special birthday trip away.

We arrived mid-afternoon to find our room was not ready but the staff dealt with it professionally by inviting us for a free drink in the bar. It turned out we only have to wait 10 minutes. I had requested a room not overlooking the main road and this request had been actioned.

The allocated room was exceedingly small for what is meant to be a Superior room. The bed was comfortable though and the decor modern. As with many hotels, power sockets were not easily accessible and there was only one available which I had to crawl under the desk to find.

The batrhoom was compact to say the least but well appointed with new fixtures and fittings. The toiletries provided were excellent and we each received a fluffy bathrobe for during our stay. The shower was more a case of 'form over function'. Very smart but not powerful at all.

We had been told by different people we met in Edinburgh that the hotel restaurant was good and we chose to have our dinner there. We were not disappointed. The food was excellent and service very personable. Almost all the staff are from Eastern Europe and they were really friendly. They treated us really well and I can thoroughly recommend it. Breakfast was likewise excellent. We were also provided with a bottle of wine in our room as a birthday gift.

In summary, the hotel has a decent location, excellent food and service but is most definitely let down by the room size issue. If one were a business traveller on a shot stay I do not think that would be a huge issue but for a special private trip away, I had expected a lot more in terms of room size.

Room wasn't ready when we arrived over hour after check-in time. Staff did offer us free drinks while we were waiting. Front desk was very polite.
Room faced Haymarket Terrace was noisy, even with window tightly shut. This was nothing compared to the annoyance that followed:
One day housekeeping decided to throw away our plastic water bottles which we left in a bag containing fresh fruit. Also threw away clean napkins which was neatly placed underneath a box of snacks. Obviously not trash, and the person who did our room the day before didn't think so either & left them alone. But the clueless maid who came the next day just decided to dump our stuff.

Just back from a trip to this hotel, only about a 10 mintue walk into Princes Street, there is a bus stop right outside the door so good location. It is quiet a small hotel, we had booked two rooms, one was smaller than the other, but had everything you need. Our main problem is that our room looked onto the street and it is very busy, we couldn't leave the windows open at night as it was too loud and when revellers came back to the hotel they smoked outside the front of the bar area which was under our room !! If booking try and book rooms that are not near the door leading to lifts as there is alot of banging doors and the maids cupboards for linen etc are located beside these doors so alot of opening and closing of doors throughout the night. There were a couple of stags and hens in our hotel but any hotel you book into in Edinburgh over a weekend will have them but nice crowds !!! Overall the hotel staff are very friendly, breakfast was very good and staff helped you in every way. I would recommend this hotel but ask for a room at the back and not near the doors to the lifts.
