There is such a warm comfortable atmosphere at this hotel that I felt as if I was at home. The building itself is a wonderful old aristocratic family home built in an elegant style, reminiscent of a more genteel bygone age; its situation a short walk from the city centre. The rooms are really cosy, with fitted carpets, a comfortable sofa, armchairs, a dressing table cum writing dress and, of course, a table with TV.
Most of all, the staff are extremely friendly and helpful, Jamie in particular, deserving a special mention here. Nothing is too much trouble for them in their efforts to make your stay a pleasurable one.
The breakfast menu includes a traditional Scottish plate of eggs with bacon, accompanied by haggis and tatties. Also available is smoked salmon on scrambled eggs....delicious! Unfortunately, the chef was on holiday after Christmas, during my January sojourn in Edinburgh, so I am unable to comment on the usual evening menu.
All in all, this is a hotel that I would have no hesitation in highly recommending.
