Having stayed at the Ramada Mount Royal. I would say this, the rooms are clean and warm, need updating and having a flat screen TV does not fully count as modernisation. Breakfast is wonderful. Staff are freindly, helpfull, ask about discount parking. Lifts are slow and always stop at level one for reception, even if not pressed. Had a deal for a meal on first night, Food was superb and staff were helpfull , if not really organised, but the end result was worth it. Loaction is great for Shopping and Sightseeing, so Yes worth a stay, but only on a deal.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Ramada on Princes Street on 7-9 September. We were in Edinburgh for a wedding so like most visitors to the city spent little time in our room. The room itself was basic and a little dated but was clean and done the job.

Good points - Location for sight-seeing, transport and shopping couldn't be better! Breakfast - hot and tasty, self-service. Staff - very friendly and helpful.

Bad points - We were in room 545 - noise from the lift shaft across the hallway woke us at night. The room was very hot even though the heating was off and so we had to leave windows open. Although we could hear no noise from the traffic, our view was a service yard and we could hear boilers rumbing all night.

We paid £89 per room per night including breakfast from the Ramada website so we considered it good value given Edinburgh hotel prices. However if I had had to pay £145 per night (which was for the same type of room a week after I booked) I would have had a different view as I dont think it is worth this price for the room we had.

In summary, although this hotel had some bad points I would definitely stay again because of its location

The only good things about this hotel is the view.

Worst rooms I have ever stayed in. It is a hike to get to reception. the lifts are slow. the staff are unfriendly.

Horrible.

My husband and I are from the states and we couldn't wait to stay in Edinburgh. We are pretty active people and knew that we wouldn't be spending too much time in the room. We booked ahead of time but were asked as soon as we got there if we wanted to "upgrade". I said "How do weknow if I haven't seen our room yet?" In any case, we upgraded and got a really great , albeit basic room at the very front with great views of the castle, etc. I'd have to agree with another poster that the noise level was pretty bad---we were there for 8 days , not just the weekend. The staff was polite but definitely didn't go out of their way to be helpful. It is off putting not to have the main desk on the floor in which you enter----very uninviting. There is a smell of stale cigarette smoke just about everywhere and very dim lights in the hallways. O.k, all of this sounds bad, but all in all, we will probably stay there again because the price and the convenience are really, really hard to beat!

My Son in England booked the trip for us, using a special rate that he saw publicized. It included a 3 day stay for the price of 2 days, and full breakfast. It was a value for a major city in a central location. After reading the comments from other travelers, I had misgivings, but I chose to rely on those with positive comments, and hope for the best. We double-checked that our rooms were the refurbished ones that looked over the gardens of Princes street, and the Castle. They were. A better view from a room could rarely be had anywhere!! The rooms are smallish, but well organized. The dining room has panoramic views, and is pleasant to spend time in. The lounge and dining areas are all one big room overlooking the gardens and city buildings. Spectacular. The location was excellent, especially since we were coming up from England by train. The staion is within walking distance. The tour buses for day trips are located just near the railway station. Stores are right at hand, Jenners, Marks and Spencer, souvenier shops, etc.,. and the Royal Art Gallery is but a block away.
The staff were courteous. The rooms were
clean and maintained. The only hitch was that one of 2 elevators was out of service for a day and a half, and the other was slow, and crowded. Many tour bus groups entered with their luggage, and made the use of elevators inconvenient. I faoult the tour bus Cos. for operating like this. When I've toured, the check-in and luggage handling is done by the driver, not the tourists.
I just want peopleto know that the negative comments probably should be disregarded. This was a good hotel at a good price and a good location.
