Very good city centre hotel. Spacious room, great location and nice breakfast.
Recently stayed here for one saturday night. the room we were given was massive, very clean and comfortable with a also a large sofa and table and chairs. the bed was huge, and bathroom very modern with twin sinks. all staff were very pleasant towards us.our room overlooked the back of the hotel and was very quiet, we never heard anything. breakfast had a large selection of both cold and hot food, and the breakfast room was pleasant to eat in. it is about 15/20 minutes walk from waverley train station, and about 5 minutes from the grassmarket area of edinburgh. this is an excellent hotel to stay in and we would definately stay here again.
My friend and I stayed there for 2 nights. The location is a bit far from the train station, it's not walking distance i'd say, better to take a cap if you're with heavy bags, otherwise then u'd to prepare for some uphills. The staff is friendly and helpful there and they have the left luggage services, so it's perfect for tourists like me who planned Scotland highland tours in between.
The room was spacious and clean, bed was comfortable and most importantly, it's reasonably priced. It's definitely a good choice
We stayed there for four nights - had a very nice and clean room. Friendly staff, good service, good location. Didn't try the breakfast as we enjoyed the kettle in our room!
I booked Edinburgh City Hotel after reading such positive reviews on Tripadvisor and so I was confident that I would be happy with my choice.
'Happy' just doesn't seem enough though! We paid £54 for a twin room and what we assumed was continental breakfast. First of all our room was exactly as it showed in the hotel pictures, clean, modern but warm and inviting. Tasteful decor in the rooms with hints of Scotland in the tartan curtains! A private safe stored within a substantial wardrobe, clean crisp white linen and plenty towels for each of us. The size of the room was a surprise! Two single beds, which were firm and provided a wonderful, comfortable nights sleep. A desk/dressing table which had numerous plug sockets and a useful full length mirror. There was also a table and two chairs to enjoy a cup of coffee at, which was provided along with tea and biscuits.
The hotel was around a 10 minute stroll in one direction from Princes Street and its gorgeous gardens and head in the opposite direction you can find Greyfriars Bobbys statue and the bustling atmosphere of the Grassmarket.
In the morning we headed down for breakfast. The restaurant area was smaller than I expected and so I imagine it would be benificial to book for dinner during peak season. The breakfast was a huge surprise! There was a fabulous continental selection of a variety of fresh fruit, breads, croissants, yougurts, cereals, tea/coffee and fruit juices. As well as this however, there were various cooked selections available. I opted for smoked salmon with potched egg on a crumpet and highly recommend it!! Other diners ordered the full Scottish option which was served with haggis and looked good too!
Having spent time in travelodges and premier inns I have rarely been disappointed with their quality and feel you do get what you pay for, however I would struggle to stay in one again in the centre of Edinburgh knowing the quality and service that can be found for the same price at Edinburgh City Hotel and for that reason have already recommended it to family and friends.
We stayed here for one night. On arrival a Hen Party were checking in in front of us. Our rooms were to be in between theirs!! When I explained to the man at reception that we had concerns about this he changed our rooms straight away and we had a lovely quiet room. Breakfast was lovely. We did have a bit of a wait but the waitress apologised for the delay and it certainly was tasty when it arrived. Highly recommend
