Stayed here with my wife during last week of October for 3 nights B&B. Got a good value for money deal on the internet and was very happy with the room, breakfast, service and general appearance of the hotel.
Short walk to all the major tourist sites and really enjoyed Edinburgh (even with the rain). Had one evening meal in the restaurant which was very good. Have to say that although the bar stays open for 24 hours, it is over-priced.
Visit the Dome on George St for the Xmas decorations alone.

All in all this hotel wont disappoint

myself and my partner stayed at this hotel on our eagerly awaited trip to edinburgh, after reading a few off the reviews we were a little nervous, but we were soon put at ease, there was a little noise from outside, but we did see new windows getting put in so it was nice to see that the hotel have been listening to people, we had a very nice and large scottish breakfast,.......... due to the lovely scottish weather we also decided to eat in the resteraunt,(it was raining) we were pleasently surpsrised, large portions, homemade, and reasonably priced, waiting staff could off talked more and music was a bit wierd but over all we were very happy.felt the bar prices were a little pricey though, we would defo reccomend and go back, laura the receptionist was such a lovely lady

Check in was quick and easy, receptionist was friendly, no parking availible at the hotel but good directions to car park which is literally just up the road (£12 for 24 hours)

Room was very clean and has everything you need but no wow factor, it was also fairly small with only one small window. My major gripe being a woman was the hairdryer they provide in the dressing table drawer didn't reach to a mirror. Theyve obviously put the new flat screen tele where the mirror used to be!!

The bed was very comfy though, and the cleaner did a great job and refreshed our room every day

We didnt' eat at the hotel and every time we looked the bar was empty so slightly lacking atmosphere.

Check-in was efficient and staff friendly. The room was dark and dismal and very basic, though clean. The restaurant is best avoided. The dark and dismal theme continued, and there was only one choice of meal for my vegetarian wife. The white wine was served warm and the staff were unable to give us a cold bottle. Ours was placed in the freezer for us for a short while. Breakfast was poor - overcooked bacon, burnt half-portion of mushrooms and a raw tomato. On our first morning, the white bread was stale, and going mouldy. On the second, it was just stale. A glimse of the kitchen staff revealed a relaxed approach to hygene regulations regarding long hair. I didn't try the bar - the seating was only uncomfortable-looking stools, and it didn't look a good place to relax with a book.

I'm sure this hotel would be fine for a passing businessman, but for a weekend break, go to the Premier Inn just up the road.

Thank you for taking the time to write your views on the Best Westen Edinburgh City Hotel.

I am sorry that, on this occasion, your stay did not live up to your expectations.

It was dissapointing to read your thoughts on the interior decoration of the room, reception and restaurant areas, as a great deal of time was taken by an Interior designer at the time of refurb a couple of years ago and we have a planned preventative maintenance program in place to keep the Hotel to a high decorative standard.

The Menu has been revamped since your stay and to give a better service and wider choice to our guests and also as part of our green initiative we have introduced more vegetarian items.

It was also disappointing to read your views on breakfast although I must point out that we work to all relevant health and hygiene standards and are audited both internally, by an external consultant and by the local authorities on this.

The hotel team constantly reviews customer feedback and uses it to highlight areas of continuous improvement that are then targeted with specific craft training. We strive to enhance our customers' experience at every opportunity and TripAdvisor is a great tool to help in that respect. Thank you for taking the time to complete your review.

I look forward to hearing from you.

I stayed in this hotel after being sent on a business trip through my own work- a four star hotel which has won many accalades for the service in the hotel.

Front desk girl was nice enough...

FOOD: DISGUSTING!!!! We decided to dine in the hotel as it would not cost us any money but i would have preferred a mcdonalds! the soup was cold and tasted like vinegar, the cannelloni was solid. When we did not eat the food we were asked by the chef why!?! Our stunned reply.... not hungry! Next 2 courses were also left and we were left sitting in our seats ready to be asked again why we did not eat this!! After working for a few years in a fine dining restaurant i would not expect anyone to go through that! We also noticed people at the other table complaining about the time waited and the food.

The room was fine.... Breakfast again was not. Ate breakfast in our room so we would not have to face any chefs.... Was cold and not what we ordered. Upon calling to get our order corrected, took about another 20 mins, everything else was cold!

Check out- was faced by stiff competition when asked to pay the bill! Now a receptionist I know not to speak to any guest like this!

Overall: hotel fine, but head to KFC for your dinner!

Thank you for taking the time to complete your views on the Best Western Edinburgh City Hotel.

Your comments about intrusive service have been reviewed with the operational team, who have reviewed the service given and been retrained in some aspects to enhance our customers' experience.

It was also disappointing to read your thoughts on the food that had been served to you on your visit! I can only apologise if you feel that this was not up to the standard you had expected. We have however launched a completely new menu since your visit and prepare and cook all menu items on site, our menu is prepared with seasonal produce as to only serve the freshest of dishes.

Sadly from time to time, things can go wrong in every business and it's important that we recognise that and make every effort to put things right. Your review is an important part of that process at the Edinburgh City, where we are constantly looking for improvements to guest's experiences that deliver a long term positive impact for both our customer and the team at the hotel. The generally positive tone of the reviews on this site by comparison to those from 18 months to 2 years ago are testement to our ambitions in this respect.

I look forward to hearing from you.
