My boyfriend and I stayed for two nights in Number One Tipperlinn Road with Bolette in August 2010. She is a lovely hostess, kind, welcoming and very hospitable. We stayed in her double room which had en-suite facilities. The room and bathroom was immaculately clean, spacious and still has some original features as the house was built in the 1800s. The house itself has lots of quirky pieces depicting war like figures and many beautiful paintings which steep the house in history. The B&B is located on the bottom two floors with the top one being owned by a separate owner. The other guest that was staying there at the same time did have a spacious bedroom but her bathroom facilities were a private one just a short walk away from her bedroom.
Bolette welcomed us after our long drive and after a day out with a cup of tea which was well needed. The rooms do not have tea or coffee facilities but do however have a small brandy container for a nightcap. It is not like your typical B&B as you feel like are staying as a guest in Bolette’s home as she takes an interest in you and your travels. She does have good local knowledge and can recommend a scenic route to walk any local attraction and good places to eat.
The location could not have been more ideal for visiting Edinburgh with a local bus service operating just a short walk away or if you prefer the fresh air like myself and my boyfriend, you can walk through the local parks to arrive on the Royal Mile after about 15 minutes, or Princes Walk after 20 minutes. It does have parking facilities outside but these are pay and display and can be quite costly but Bolette can offer an alternative should you need it.
The breakfast was lovely and Bolette does offer a wide range to suit any need. The service was impeccable and I would definitely recommend to those who would like a more personal stay in a B&B, I would stay here again if I was to visit Edinburgh as the location was perfect for us.
