I've just returned from a 2 night stay at The Place (8-10 June). Firstly, I'll start with the positives! Lovely, helpful staff. Fantastic location and hotel cleanliness in the bedrooms and public areas to a high standard. We didn't eat in the hotel, so can't comment on the food. Now for the bad news..... we were in room 3801, which is located in the basement. Room was large and very spacious but because of it's basement location very dark. Furnishing in the room can only be described as sparse to say the least! Total absence of any pictures on the walls and a room that large could easily have taken a couple of chairs and a table or sofa. The room was quiet enough for us to sleep until there was a loud door slammed at 6am on the Saturday morning. Our room appeared to be situated next door to a storage cupboard that was accessed by the kitchen staff - the door slamming continued throughout the next couple of hours. I complained to reception later that morning and asked if we could be moved to another room but unfortunately the hotel was full. The receptionist apologised and assured me that it wouldn't happen again - it did later on that night but stopped as soon as I phoned reception. All in all I was very disappointed in my stay - fantastic location but very disappointed in the room.
