It was a welcome surprise to receive an email acknowledgment, in receipt of my feedback form, for a two evening stay at the Apex International Hotel.
It's worthwhile mentioning at this point, that over the past ten years or so, I have spent at least 3 months per year in hotels away from my family. So I draw on the experiences that I have encountered in that time that reflect the below comments.
On arrival, reception staff were efficient, courteous and friendly. We were a little early to book in but we were dealt with in a very swift and pleasing manner.
Our room was clean and tidy on entry and throughout our stay, cleaning staff did an excellent job of maintaining the cleanliness of the room. Air conditioning would have been useful, but we were experiencing an unusually high temperature for Edinburgh. A nice touch was that the children's soft toys on the beds were always arranged together with a touch of flair - top marks!
The Metro restaurant on the ground floor staff are warm, professional and friendly. The food was fantastic! Our son (who is a notoriously picky eater), went as far as trying my haggis, neaps and tatties. He liked them so much, he wanted a plateful of his own - which was delivered quickly and was subsequently demolished with alarming gusto.
The bar just upstairs from the Metro restaurant was manned by an Australian. He was friendly and very efficient. He managed our drinking expectations perfectly and without fuss. He was as conversational as all good barkeepers should be.
The Heights restaurant, which had a lovely view of the Edinburgh Castle, was staffed by friendly and efficient people. The breakfast menu was excellent (my wife still misses the morning feast). The view of the Castle blew us away.
All in all, there is a pattern of friendliness, courteousness, efficiency and professionalism. These were delivered by the hotels team in a consistent fashion.
They always made us feel relaxed and at ease in our surroundings and I felt that they valued our business, highly.
The most important part for me though, was that everyone had a smile. Something that costs nothing - but is something that I value extremely highly.
You should book a stay at this hotel. It is very convenient for the centre of the City and the travel connections at Grassmarket are second to none (try one of the open-top tours - but take a raincoat!)
