This Hotel is right in the centre of Edinburgh and right beside the royal mile .On our arrival at this hotel the receptionist was not very friendly , and my first impression of the hotel was not great a smile would have been good or even an hello on arrival ,
Anyway we were not going to let this upset the weekend .Our bedroom was a premiun room which was lovely and spacious plenty of room for us and even had our own bathrobes the bath in this room is fab my only gripe here was that on day two the cleaners had not serviced our rooms even though I had left my sign on door to please service my room and when I requested that it be done they barely made the bed and didn't bother to replace the toilitries this I also to request to be done which they did in due course. This hotel has leisure facilities which are very outdated and need a good revamp it is like something out of the seventies .The service in the bar is very slow and if you order food make sure yo have plenty of time as I ordered a coffee and toasted sandwich and still hadn't received it after 35minutes . When food eventually arrives it is nice and tasty . Drinks in the bar are very expensive a large glass of wine will set you back £7.95 STERLING my advise don't drink in the bar unless you have to . Most of the staff in this hotel are very friendly and the concerige service is brilliant the guys do a great job here . Barbara and Jo on reception need to learn how to greet there guests on arrival at the Hotel as they both let the side down and first impressions are very important .

“Happy with this hotel”

I spent two nights here to start off my tour of Scotland. My room was very nice, plenty of space and fully equipped. The bathroom was clean and average sized, so no surprises there. I stayed here on the night of a major rugby match. I anticipated problems with noise due to the crowds of fans in the area, but no need.

The restaurant served an excellent buffet breakfast, and they had a great dinner menu as well. No complaints with service either.

The location of the hotel was ideal. It was in walking distance of many attractions and shopping. I highly recommend a short walk to St. Giles Cathedral. It is beautiful!

If I had known what I was in for with my next few hotels, I may have stayed here a little longer!

Stayed 3 nights from 13th october. 2 rooms, 1 Premium for myself ,wife and toddler, 1 twin for teenage daughters..
resonable price direct from Paramount but not great..

Location- A1.. for all attractions, if its location you want at a price considerably less than Sheraton, Radisson and Hilton, this is the place...

Arrived with Car, could not park outside as no spaces so we waited in traffic. When we did manage to park outside the Concierge watched my wife and youngest daughter struggle with luggage without offering any help whilst I tried to find the so called car park ( free for premium rooms) Car park some 800 mtrs away around the back of some little side alley...looked like something out of a troubled Inner city housing estate. Expected Rebus to come swaying out of one of the well dingy pubs right by it..

Rooms: no probs, spacious, clean( ish) but very warm in an unseasonly warm October.
Second day rooms not cleaned at all, had to ring reception to get housekeeping up, did not replace water, mini bar had not been restocked for god knows how long, half the stuff was missing, but we did not get charged for it. You could probably empty it and say you did not use it as it does not get checked , however im sure the good readers of this are all of a higher moral upbringing to do such a thing. :-)

Breakfast: pretty good but no comparison to a Hilton, Sheraton or Radisson Buffet,

Dinner: Unforgetable... Crap, you got £ 22.50 Allowance if you stayed DBB and that does not get you much... This is not quality food by any standards.
We ate in Pizza express one night which is just next door, much better.

Bar: Crap. It serves drinks, thats about as much as I can say, overpriced, understaffed with Eastern Europeans and with totally no atmosphere..

Spa/ Pool... Hmm if you are of a nervous disposition please stop reading.. Dark, Dingy, unclean, and uninviting and to top it of, our girls swam by themselves on the last morning and were looking at a unidentified object at the bottom for a good while plucking up the courage to go and fish it out... Youngest daughter went down and fished out something hairy, mouldy, and most definately fecal. She threw it out after realising what she had picked up and the attendent came. When asked to confirm what it was he just said no comment and proceeded to don a pair of rubber gloves and scoop it up from where my daughter had thrown it...
Be afraid- very afraid if you swim down there.

Checkout: They tried to charge us for various Dinner food items which were included on our tarriff, and there were also charges there I had not even signed for, got £ 100 + knocked of ,however it was all for stuff that was included or we had not drank/eaten.. Scutinise your Bill.

Oh and to ice the cake, our middle daughters jewellry box went missing from her twin room she was sharing with her younger sister. Of course cannot accuse anyone or body outright , however it was there after unpacking and for 2 nights, it was just not there when she went to pack up on the day of departure. Make your own judgement. We told hotel we would wait to we got home to see if she or her sister had packed it and not noticed, but it was not there and not in the room after 2 checks either... Rebus where are you???

We are not moaners and take things at face value, we travel a lot and have stayed in all grades of hotels... As we were booking 2 rooms we could not really justify the price of the Sheraton or Hilton and got a reasonable 2 room deal here, however if you book this place be very aware, you are not going to stay in anything that compares to those places..
If its location you want, and dont intend to use the hotel much its ok...

Good luck...

Stayed overnight after watching the Fireworks for the end of the Edinburgh festival.
Good points - I booked online and had to process the booking for two rooms separately, they emailed to confirm that we required two rooms. Thats about it for the good points!

Bad - it has no car park - carparking overnight in the railway carpark cost £15, we walked up to the lower level entrance to the hotel - couldnt actually find how to get in, a gym member showed us, we had to go through the bowels of the hotel to find the lift - there had been some kind of flood and the painted concrete was like an icerink - the carpet at the entrance to the lift was absolutely sodden, got into the lift and found our way to reception. Check in was OK. Male receptionist was rather snotty. Walked up to first floor to get lift to rooms - found the rooms. They were OK, nothing spectactular. Mini bar was dripping with water and hadnt been re stocked. Bed was comfy enough after a rake of drink at the Harvey Nichols firework evening!

Bar was expensive, bar staff ignored patrons. Repeatedly asked for bar snacks, eventually to be told there was not a crisp or nut in the place?????? The bar staff were more concerned about putting away the glasses etc from a wedding the previous day. The barmaid at one point in the middle of serving my husband, broke off to serve the young basketball team their drinks, then returned to serving him!

As I only paid £60 for an overnight stay, I cant complain too much, but I wouldnt stay here for anything other than a stopover for a night out in Edinburgh and only if it cost £60 or less.
