We stayed here last weekend, travelled here by train (1st class worth it as meal provided and additional comfort was worth the extra few pounds). Coming out of the train station you can walk up the covered marble staircase beside the Scotsman hotel and the Carlton is across the road, no taxi necessary. We decided to upgrade for £30 extra per night. Apparently the room was bigger, we had the use of dressing gowns and slippers and received chocolates and bottled water. The room was quite large with 2 windows and the bathroom had a large shower bath. Bed was very, very comfortable, best night sleep Iv had in ages. We decided to buy a 2 day bus pass for the trip buses which line up on Waverley Bridge. Best money spent. £43 adult £38 student/concession. But this gave a full 48 hours of travel plus entry into Edinburgh castle (without having to queue to get in), entry onto HMS Brittannia (surprisingly worth it and of interest to men and women due to the mix of history, glamorous lifestyle, and engineering) and entry in holyrood house. This saved over £20 on buying entry individually and the buses were great, several different companies included. Hotel was easy access to walk to theatre, go shopping or visit the many pubs and restaurants. Breakfast very varied. There is a spa area and there are beauty treatments available. but the pool area looked tatty and in need of a clean when we were there. Well situated and Edinburgh is worth a visit, the people we spoke to are very proud of their heritage and have every right to be so. We will be back

Thank you for taking the time to leave an excellent review regarding your visit at the Carlton Hotel.
What detail, do you work for a travel guide?
I am glad you had a chance to explore Edinburgh, City Sightseeing Edinburgh is fantastic tour company for hoping on and off around town, located just off Market Street on our Minus 4 Level of the hotel, you get dropped off at every location around the city.
As you mentioned if you purchased a ticket after midday you get the full 24hrs use till midday next. There is no rushing to see Edinburgh Castle, The Royal Yacht Britannia and Holyrood Palace all in one day.
Thank you again for taking the time to place a review and hopefully we will have another chance to welcoming you back to the Carlton.
