Visited in December - so it was cold and wet outside but inside there was a warm welcome. It was late afternoon (that in-between time which in Scotland usually means there's a lack of interest from the staff and the kitchen) but that didn't matter to the folks at Ecco Vino. Service was very friendly - and multi-lingual! Excellent wines by the glass - not too pricey. My friend and I had missed lunch so we were hungry; that was soon fixed by two excellent pasta dishes, piping hot, well-presented and deliciously simple. We had some time to kill and the staff had no problem in letting us linger and chat over a glass or two of wine. By the time we left, around five, the restaurant was filling up -- so Ecco Vino is obviously a popular spot. Although it's in the midst of the touristy area (just down from the High Street) it seemed to be a favorite with locals. I would go back without hesitation -- and it's an easy location to find, so if you need to meet someone in the heart of Edinburgh this would be a good place to do so.
