Spent two nights at the hotel on business. The room I had was tiny and I would have hated it if there was two of us in the room.

The service provided was OK, breakfast was poor but dinner was of a decent standard.

The leisure facilities were the best part of the hotel.

I would probably stay elsewhere if I was to travel to this part of the world again but if I had to stay again I could survive.

“Comfortable but a bit pricey.”

Keavil House

I have stayed at the Keavil several times now and would recommend it as a central point for exploring Edinburgh and Fife.

The rooms are spacious, comfortable and well decorated. The bathrooms are lovely and clean. Breakfast is fantastic and the restaurant food is first class (if a bit pricey).

Add to this the pool and gym and it makes for a very relaxing stay when I am on business in Rosyth (especially after the boss has been griping all day).

I liked it so much that I actually stayed with my wife and kids for a long weekend during the summer and used it as a base for sightseeing Edinburgh. They bent the rules a bit for us (I wont say how) and for this I am eternally grateful.

If I could afford it I would go here regularly and dont hesitate in recommending it.

Stayed there for two nights April/May with prebooked dinner bed and breakfast.

Room was in newer part of hotel and very spacious with nice bathroom. We made use of spa/pool which was great although service a bit iffy, male at desk shoved the sign in sheet to me and didnt offer me a towel.

The spa staff seemed more interested in talking between themselves.

Room very clean with everything we needed.

We were a bit disappointed in the dining experience. My other half is quite a plain eater and not much choice there for his taste however he made an effort but was disappointed in what he had. The alternative fish and chips was quite tasteless with soggy batter and I wasnt too impressed with the salmon. We ate from the main dinner menu one night and the a la carte on the other night. I think the chef trying too hard to be different and missing out on the flavour of the food. The bar area could do with a bit more atmosphere but on the whole the stay was value for money.

Stayed overnight with friends for £99 DB&B for 2 people. Lovely room in the newer part of the hotel with large floor space and good quality bathroom. Great facilities and really friendly staff made it really special for all of us. Food was also very good for the money and well worth eating. All in I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised by the overall quality and value for money this hotel provided, highly recommended.

“Bit pretentious and dated, but alright.”

The Keavil House Hotel is quite a way out of Dunfermline, and well on the way to Rosyth so there isn't really much to speak of around the hotel and it's a fair way across the Forth to Edinburgh. I wouldn't stay there if I was visiting Edinburgh as it's too difficult to get there. The drive from Edinburgh airport should take about 25 mins, but it took over 2.5 hours on the way as the Forth road bridge was closed due to high winds.

The staff were generally ok, checkout seemed a bit laborious and I couldn't help thinking they could do with a bigger reception desk.

We ate at the restaurant and had to wait half an hour for a table even though we had booked and there were only 3 other tables in use. The food was a bit mediocre for the price and was quite astonishingly pretentious. It was something like £23 for 2 courses and £27 for 3. Everything had a slightly bizarre sauce (eg fois gras vinaigrette with the beef and chorizo mouse with the scallops) which all seemed a bit unnecessary and like they were trying way too hard.

I had a ground floor room with twin beds. The room was fairly large and was clean although the decor was a bit dated, chintzy and slightly tired. The bed was hideously soft, although I did have a good nights sleep.

The gym and swimming pool in the attached health club were pretty nice, and I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the pool.

The breakfast was OK, there didn't seem to be very many people in the hotel but was still a decent enough range and the scrambled egg was superior.
