I know this hotel gets fabulous reviews in the UK and after staying in five different hotels on a recent vacation between Spain and Scotland I would say it is nice, but by American Standards it is average. I don't want to give the impression that there were any problems--there were none.
The staff was extremely helpful, friendly and cordial. First Class in that regard. In fact, the staff is the major asset of the property.
The hotel is located in the ideal spot for viewing and visiting the beach and overlooks the 18th green of the Old Course.
What my wife and I had issues with were the paper thin walls of our room. Between the snoring next door and all of the iPhone alarms going off for early tee times there was little rest. You could hear it all. Quite disappointing for a hotel that gets such high ratings. Again, I am looking at this from an American viewpoint, not European and certainly not British!
The bedroom was small but the bed was VERY comfortable. Breakfast buffet was good and a good way to start the day.
If we had been staying more than one night, we would have asked for a different room. Again, don't be afraid to stay, just know what you are getting.
