We stayed at the Russell Hotel in May whilst attending a wedding which was actually in the church just across the road which was handy ! The hotel enjoys a good position on the seafront looking across to the very famous golf course, everyone staying seemed to be a golfer.
We had a seaview room, great view but the room needed some attention to bring it up to a good standard. The window sash cord was broken and hanging down, the windows were mouldy and difficult to open. Room was a bit on the small side. Some of the other rooms looked better than ours. Bathroom refurbed, clean and tidy, but poor shower - not enough pressure possibly. The bar area was good, plenty of atmosphere, lots of diners about so assume food was good. We were part of a wedding group so ate out in St. Andrews at the Mexican (can't remember the name but very good, owned by Carol Smilie ??) and a French restaurant Le Rustique which was nice. St. Andrews is very nice, quite upmarket, and plenty of shops to mooch around if you're not a golfer.
Breakfast was very Scottish and generous, if you had the works you probably wouldn't need to eat until the evening !
Staff very friendly, so all in all more positives than negatives, and incidentally no problems encountered with parking as mentioned previously.
