“Not as good as I expected”

From the entrance the hotel looks very impressive and the main area's such as the atrium and reception are very nice but on the whole I would rate the hotel as a 4 star not a 5.

The room was large, comfortable and the bathroom was huge but I didn't think it was as good as it could be. The reception on the television was poor. There were no bathrobes, slippers, sewing kits or other things that you expect from a hotel of this class. I also would have expected a CD player or DVD player but nothing.

The bathroom was not as clean as it could have been as the tiles in the shower were a bit orange round the edges with mildew.

The staff were good overall although I found one of the receptionists was a bit snippy.

Overall nice hotel but expected better.

“Lovely stay but definately not a five star hotel”

My mum and I stayed at the Fairmont this weekend and it was enjoyable weekend and it was a lovely hotel but not worthy of its five stars. There was nothing drastically wrong but it was the little things that you expect from a five star hotel that weren't there or werent quite right (i.e. one tatty bathrobe in the room, no slipper, no slippers or shoes for the spa area which was wet everywhere including the toilets, towels everywhere and messy reception, no locker keys left to keep belongings.)
Also if you are looking for a romantic break this is not the place - there are lots of children, for the most part they were well behaved but if you dont like children being everywhere this is not the hotel for you. On the saturday evening several of them gathered in the large Atrium and were playing rugby rather loudly beside the main restaurant. 2 diners complained and I have to say I agreed with them - i dont expect to pay a lot of money for a meal and have to put up with disruptive bored children at night, (just before 10pm) I guess this is more to do with their parents who were obviously enjoying drinks elsewhere. I believe this is a common occurrence at the Fairmont as a colleague and I compared comments this morning and he had the same comment with regard to children.
Some lovely excellant staff though especially staff in the main restaurant. (And some not!)

Spent 2 nights at Fairmont St. Andrews celebrating 50th birthday. Had
excellent time. Great views, very comfortable rooms. Good leisure facilities. Very modern hotel set on cliff top. 2 golfcourses. Meal package allowed dining in the hotel or the club house restaurant. Both good. Excellent breakfast! tables well spaced so you didn't overhear everyone else's conversation. Would highly recommend this hotel. Loads to see and do in and around St Andrews. The only thing that would make this hotel better is if it had a adults only time in the leisure facilites (especially as we went during the October break).

“Fantastic - a memorable experience”

Fairmont St Andrews

We have just arrived back from a two day break with friends at the Fairmont St Andrews. Our first glimpse of the hotel was impressive as we made our way towards the long driveway. A gorgeous building...of impressive design and flanked by two championship golf courses.

The one thing that really made it such a memorable experience was the staff. I simply cannot praise them highly enough...friendly, helpful and full of charm.

The rooms themselves were quite a good size and had everything we needed. I would say they were quite 'standard' for a quality hotel but not spectacular. However, the bathroom was very spacious with a great shower and separate bath.

The hotel boasts several restaurants, which we did not manage to sample properly having already booked restaurants in nearby St Andrews in advance of our trip. However, breakfast was well worth waiting for. A huge choice of quality food, served buffet style. If you can't find something to your tast you must be extremely fussy!

The drinks in the bar didn't come cheap though. Lovely (but not very large) cocktails at £10 a time seemed pretty steep...and the other drinks weren't much better.

A complementary shuttle service operated on the hour taking guests into St Andrews, picking us back up at the end of the trip (by placing a quick call to the driver). Our driver was absolutely lovely and tremendously helpful.

Our men tried their hand at the two golf courses - the Torrance and the Devlin, but were somewhat challenged by the very tight fairways. These courses are not for the faint-hearted!

My friend and I, on the other hand, elected to make use of the gym and spa facilities and treated ourselves to a fantastic massage.

All in all, a wonderful break in a fantastic location and wonderfully looked after. Just sad to have to go back home at the end of the 2 days...

This hotel HAS NOT went down hill in the slightest! If anything this is one of the best hotels I have had the pleasure of staying in. I’ve been to many nice hotels in many nice places in the world. I live not so far from St Andrews (about 1 hour) and it was like being in a different country, granted the 25 degree temputures helped matters.

From the minute we booked in to the minute we checked out we had no complaints. We had a few Spa treatments and these were fantastic. We loved all the leisure facilities and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere the hotel has.

If you’re looking for a weekend away, this is the place. The rooms were to an extremely high standard as were the bathrooms. Ours had a walk in shower, bath and phone all in the bathroom. Nice!

We ordered room service for lunch and dinner and the food was magnificent. You could not fault it in the slightest!

Highly recommended and well worth the price!
