We have just arrived back from a two day break with friends at the Fairmont St Andrews. Our first glimpse of the hotel was impressive as we made our way towards the long driveway. A gorgeous building...of impressive design and flanked by two championship golf courses.
The one thing that really made it such a memorable experience was the staff. I simply cannot praise them highly enough...friendly, helpful and full of charm.
The rooms themselves were quite a good size and had everything we needed. I would say they were quite 'standard' for a quality hotel but not spectacular. However, the bathroom was very spacious with a great shower and separate bath.
The hotel boasts several restaurants, which we did not manage to sample properly having already booked restaurants in nearby St Andrews in advance of our trip. However, breakfast was well worth waiting for. A huge choice of quality food, served buffet style. If you can't find something to your tast you must be extremely fussy!
The drinks in the bar didn't come cheap though. Lovely (but not very large) cocktails at £10 a time seemed pretty steep...and the other drinks weren't much better.
A complementary shuttle service operated on the hour taking guests into St Andrews, picking us back up at the end of the trip (by placing a quick call to the driver). Our driver was absolutely lovely and tremendously helpful.
Our men tried their hand at the two golf courses - the Torrance and the Devlin, but were somewhat challenged by the very tight fairways. These courses are not for the faint-hearted!
My friend and I, on the other hand, elected to make use of the gym and spa facilities and treated ourselves to a fantastic massage.
All in all, a wonderful break in a fantastic location and wonderfully looked after. Just sad to have to go back home at the end of the 2 days...
