I have been wanting to stay in this hotel since it opened really as the foyer always looks so welcoming. Organised a wee surprise for my husband - we were going into town anyway for meal and I thought well why not? I do have to agree that I felt it was a bit overpriced for what you get. Yes the idea of the minibar was good as was our inclusion into the executive lounge. (although the nibbles did look like a bowl of pot-pourri so my hubby wouldn't pick it up! - tasty though. (veg crisps by any other name). Our room was overlooking the lane that ran at the back of the hotel with pub seating right under the window, I was worried at first of not getting a sleep, however the pub shut these doors and seats at a reasonable hour (9:30 ish) and hand on heart never heard anything else after that.
The room was very clean and modern but I do have to say that the headboard was most uncomfortable while trying to read - like four bolster pillows piled on top of each other, your head was flung forward! The bed was quite comfy but the pillows were way too soft for me (to be fair I could have requested other ones I suppose).Bathroom was of standard issue (liked the tartan tiles) except could not find a bath plug!
Breakfast was usual buffet style (I do like a good hotel breakfast), this one disappointed a little though. Good to see traditional scottish potato scones on the menu but I think most scottish folk like them fried rather than just heated through ( I daresay the chef would have done this if asked, only he wasn't around when I was looking for him to make me a fried egg as opposed to scrambled which was in tray). My pet hate in any hotel is these DIY toast machines!! I am paying good money to be spoiled slightly so it would be good to have fresh hot toast brought to your table (I honestly could start a petition against these things! - sad, I know).
Overall, yes it was very nice and location is just fantastic.
