My mum and I booked in here for a week when I was having my flat, which is just round the corner, renovated. Let me tell you now, that this is excellent quality for a budget Glasgow hotel. The staff were very helpful and, typically for Glasgow, friendly and talkative, and catered to our every whim. I was leaving very early for work each morning (I commute to Edinburgh, and it was actually a treat to be a much shorter walk to the Subway than I normally am!), and the girls arranged me a small breakfast, placed in our room every evening, of anything I wanted, although obviously I couldn't have anything cooked at that hour!
The hotel was wonderfully warm and cosy, which is a blessing in Glasgow in December, and we had no problems controlling the bedroom radiator; unlike other people who have written reviews here, they worked for us exactly as you'd expect. The shower was powerful and hot, and we did not experience any loss of water pressure. Two decent sized bath towels were given per person.
We were lucky enough to be given Room 4, which is a three bed room, even though there were only two of us. There was lots of space here, although I have also stayed in Room 3 and that was rather smaller. I might add to those who are unfamiliar with Glasgow that often the rooms in these small townhouse hotels do vary dramatically, simply because of the quirks of the old buildings, and the difficulty of fitting in rooms around those. Thus the people who stayed in the upper rooms were maybe disappointed because they had less space due to the eaves, but this is par for the course in such types of hotels. If you want to avoid rooms like this, ask for one that is not on the top/basement floor when booking.
Breakfast in the dining room on the days that I was able to have it was fantastic. Lots of fruit and different cereals, the toast was a choice of brown and white, no problems with the way it was cooked. Excellent cup of tea, great hash browns (my highlight of the cooked breakfast - though tattie scones would have been more Scottish!), and good porridge (what Americans call oatmeal). Some friendly banter too with the ever helpful staff. My one grouch would be the TV which was always on, though with the sound turned down. I personally find TVs in places where you are eating distracting - it means you watch that and ignore the person you are sitting with. However, some might not find this a problem at all.
All in all, with such a great location just off Great Western Road at Kelvinbridge, you would be hard pressed to find anything better value for money. I would only go for something different if I simply HAD to be in the city centre, but even that is only a 10 min ride away by bus or Subway.
