I was very curious what this is going to be after all the reviews. I have to say I was not disappointed at all. Yes, the location is grand but slightly impractical if you don't have a car (there are buses in the vicinity but after about 6pm the schedule is pretty useless...) and yes, the mattress will have seen better days, but considering what I paid for this stay, it truly deserves 5 stars (for value for money I would have given int 6!). The caretaker who was there on Sunday afternoon when I arrived was very helpful and nice, and for the rest of the stay I have barely had any needs for the reception anyway, apart from some minor questions that were promptly answered. The room was large, a lot of light with two huge windows. There was a little kitchen which I barely used (though the fridge was very welcome!). The bath was good, clean, the usual UK trickle shower etc. It is an old house though, so if somebody walks down the corridor, you will hear it. But, I consider that a part of its charm. All in all, although the weather was atrocious, it rained incessantly the WHOLE week I was there, I liked my stay in this hotel a lot. Glasgow is also very nice and I enjoyed a couple of very good restaurants, all reasonably priced. Lovely! (well, apart from the rain...)
