We were in Great Britian for 3 weeks and this was the best place we stayed! It is beautiful, from the front step to the lobby, to the breakfast room, to our room in the basement (which is really only a half basement - has full sized windows with lots of light). The owners were very friendly and helpful - their toddler was adorable - and the cat was a special treat since we had gone 3 weeks without seeing our own dogs and cats. The room really was gorgous and comfortable - and the bathroom was a treat with a double headed shower. Each room has a flat screen TV and you can get DVDs from the owners. Since this was the end of a very long, full trip, we appreciated the opportunity to wind down in front of a good movie. The location at first seemed somewhat removed, however, the neighborhood is actually a great area - with several restaraunts, pubs, coffe shops, etc. There were some options for music in the evenings - and the Kelvingrove gallary is just a block away. This really was a great "home away from home"!

We really enjoyed our stay at The Alamo. The entrance hall is very grand and we were given a choice of rooms as we were early - we chose the one in the basement because it had been done up in period style. We loved the furniture in the room. The bathroom had obviously been recently refurbished, and was lovely.

The location is fantastic, with a view of the Art Gallery.

The only downside, as a recent poster mentioned, was the lack of cooked breakfast (except scrambled egg). That doesn't bother me as I'm a veggie and always opt for cereal, but my husband was looking forward to lorne sausage etc!

Overall, the building was lovely, the bed was extremely comfortable, the host was very friendly, and cat-lovers (like me) will love Flash. I would definitely go back.

Stayed here for a couple of nights in late Dec with my elderly mother. Steve was an excellent host and was so very helpful to her needs that she stayed another night in Jan as well. The rooms were lovely with great showers and elegant period furniture. The location is superb with restaurants etc close by yet looking over a lovely park. The breakfast was more than enough with the choice of one hot dish of scrambled eggs and loads of other healthy choices to fill up on. Couldn't fault the place, and loved the cat!

three of us stayed here to visit S.E.C.C. excellent location to local attractions, able to walk to ex. centre. Hosts of guest house are very friendly nothing to much trouble, rooms very clean with period/antique furniture. One downside to this establishment is having no cooked breakfast only scrambled eggs /cereal etc available, which meant as three grown lads we had to go stop for lunch whereas if we had a good beakfast we would have been fine

We spent 2 nights at The Alamo, and were allocated Room 3. Maybe we were unlucky, but this was a room in need of some love and attention. The approach to it, down in the basement was not good, with signs of neglect. The room was dark with inadequate lighting for reading. It was also affected by noise from the extract fan in the adjoining room. The en-suite shower room was modern but small and dark and also in need of some repair.

Breakfast consisted of a good selection of fruit, cereal and yoghurts, but if you want a cooked breakfast then the Alamo is not for you - precooked scrambled egg is all that there is on offer.

The hosts were friendly and helpful, but if you are booking, then try to get a different room!
