“Perfect!!”

Alamo Guest House

We have stayed in Glasgow numerous times over the last few years, using it as a base to head of to areas around. We have never stayed at the Alamo before, but were recommended it by a friend and even some other travellers we met before we got to Glasgow! We weren't disappointed! My wife and I couldn't have felt more welcome! The owners Emma & Steve (and new born son Leon) were incredibly helpful and took care of our every need. The Guest House is in a superb quiet location, with undisturbed views over Kelvingrove Park, the Spectacular Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Glasgow University. We could easily walk into the centre or the attractions of the west end too. The interior of the Guest House has been decorated to a very high standard. The work that Emma and Steve have done over the short 16months (I think) is very impressive, creating a warm and welcoming period feel to the property! Breakfast was refreshing and very healthy added too by the lovely Dinning room (the ceiling was Amazing!!), with views over the park! Our room was spotless and the and the décor was great, LOVED the slate Ensuite! Thank you soo much again for a lovely stay...great value!

Dear Diane & Walter
You were great guests and we remember how kind and appreciative you were during your stay. It was a pleasure meeting you, so thank you for taking the time to write such a glowing review :o)
It's lovely after 17months of hard work, that it's all now being appreciated. We have now got to the point where finally all the major work has been done to change around the property. Now is the extra fun part- adding more to the detail :o)

Kind regards

Emma, Steve, Leon and the rest of the Alamo staff

Stayed at the Alamo in May for one night, though my aunt stayed approximately one week.

We arrived from Oban in the evening as our flight to Canada was very early the next morning. When we got to the Alamo, our room was below ground level. The proprietor was painting the adjacent bedroom with oil based paint. We were then informed that the small room we were in had been painted that day, and that new carpet had been laid, using an adhesive. The smell was unbelievable...and quickly triggered my alergies. I had taken medication which made me drousy and ended up asleep. Woke in the morning to discover that, despite telling the proprietor, quite angrily that it was not appropriate to paint and lay carpet with guests present, that he had stayed up all nite...continuing to paint. The end result of my stay at the Alamo...threw up 4 times while in the line at the airport...sickest I have ever been in my life on the flight home...sick from work for a week...and the summer having to use a steroid inhaler.

All in all, a good location, but the owners were extremely inconsiderate of their guests' health and well-being. A vacation I paid for, for a long time. Go elsewhere!

My Wife and I were very sorry and concerned to hear of this guest's ailments.
I was amazed though to find this review on the website, especially 9 months after the guest had stayed. My wife and I were very concerned and racked our brains to try and remember who the guest was, who had such a terrible and inconsiderate stay at our Guest House. We checked the booking diary and to our amazement, it was the nephew of a wonderful lady who had stayed with us for more than a week before his arrival. My wife has been in friendly e-mail correspondence with the aunt, since her stay. We were incredibly considerate and tended to his aunts needs throughout her stay, which made us very upset to find this very hurtful and inaccurate review. I say inaccurate, as the booking for the nephew was made as an additional guest at the last minute. The aunt was originally booked into a single room and was meant to be staying with us for those 3 days she went to Oban. These nights were cancelled when her nephew took her away to Oban. The twin room was the only room available for them both to stay in on their return. Yes a carpet had been layed that day. The carpet was not laid with adhesive and the room had not been decorated, as it was only finished 2 months ago. The guest in question had been explained all this, as the room was empty ready for a new Victorian sink to be plumbed in the next day. We made the room up especially to accommodate him and his aunt together, as there was no other room available, which they were very thankful for. His aunt had really enjoyed her stay and wanted to stay again on her return. I was especially surprised to read that it was our fault that his allergies had been triggered and, to quote him, ' I had taken medication which made me drousy and ended up asleep. Woke in the morning to discover that, despite telling the proprietor, quite angrily that it was not appropriate to paint and lay carpet with guests present, that he had stayed up all nite...continuing to paint.' In response to this, he never got angry with me or mentioned any of what he has written. It was correct that I stayed up all night to decorate a room, to get this one ready for another sink that was being plumbed in as well, yet this was with water based emulsion.
Albeit my wife and I find it amazing that we try our best to accommodate all our guest's needs and wants, yet it is unfortunate that 1 guest can write such a slanderous review. I do hope this experience hasn't harmed him for life and he is on his road to recovery.

We stayed here for one night on our way to Oban, and couldn't have felt more welcome. The owners were away but the lady and her daughter left in charge were very friendly and eager to please. The room was lovely with high ceilings and a victorian feel, there was no en-suite but who cares when we saw the bathroom next door, this had a wonder big round bath and even had candles if you felt like a good long relax. There was a good choice for breakfast and every effort was made to accomodate our 3 year old son who is a very fussy eater. The view from the dining room over kelvin park was an added bonus, also very good for walking off the big breakfast. we parked right outside the door during our stay and caught the bus into the centre of Glasgow from the bus stop just around the corner. very good for my father in law who walks with a zimmer. Thank you, will stay again and recommend to our friends and family.

Thankyou for such a lovely review :o)
It was soo nice to know that you were very well looked after in our absence. My wife and I have passed on your comments and also showed the review on trip advisor. They both remember you all and send their warmest regards.
Great to see that you enjoyed one of my favourite rooms. Some people are very hesitant about not having an en-suite room, but it is really worth all our efforts when guests appreciate the spaces we have created- Thankyou!

Kindest regards

Emma & Steve

We stayed in 2 rooms over 4 days and loved both of them. The first room was a double en-suite, which I was initially a bit disappointed that it was on the lower ground floor and not overlooking the park. But the room made up for my initial disappointment. It had a mixture of Victorian and French furniture, with a brilliant slate tiled Ensuite. The second room was not an en-suite and again I was a bit apprehensive of this, but the room once more made up for this, with high ceilings and a huge mirror over the bed and a lovely chandelier. The full Scottish breakfast was lovely and it was an added pleasure looking over the park from the dining room. The staff and guest house owners were very friendly and very helpful. Plus the location of the guest house is excellent, right in the middle, between the city centre and the west end of Glasgow. Flash the cat was a bonus.

This was the seventh of eight bed and breakfasts we stayed at on our honeymoon to Ireland and Scotland. We would probably not stay here again.

The location was excellent, and probably the best aspect of this guest house – next door to the Kelvingrove Museum, about a 10 minute walk to the subway, and about a 15 minute walk to the city center. There were plenty of cafes and restaurants close by. Our hosts were very nice, were helpful, and cooked good breakfasts. Our room was not good though. The bed was quite uncomfortable, had a thin mattress, and was of poor construction. The ensuite bathroom was literally part of the bedroom. You could watch someone shower from the bed. There was no door separating the bedroom from the toilet – rather a saloon-style swinging gate, which was quite awkward, even for newlyweds (see photos).
