Arrvied to be told the guest house did not have a room available as they had overbooked. Initially, the representative of the guest house asked if we would like him to find us somewhere else to stay. I was shocked that he had not already made an alternative booking. After much back and forth, he stated he had found us somewhere and gave us the name and street location of another hotel in Glasgow. When we arrived, the Manager advised he had not received any call or request from the Onslow, did not have a reservation in my name and was fully booked for the evening. The Onslow had left us high and dry.

The Manager at the hotel the Onslow sent us to, Newton Hotel, was extremely helpful. He located and confirmed accomodation for us and was very apologetic for the actions of the Onslow Guest House.

I had booked 3 single rooms through late rooms for one night on 20/08/2008 and had comfirmed with the guest house the following day that the booking had gone through. On arrival at the guest house we were told that the rooms had been double booked and that they had tried to contact me. I obviously had heard nothing but have been told that double booking has happened before. This date was extremely busy in Glasgow but we were " lucky " to get a family room with three beds. Not what we wanted but having travelled from Northern Ireland we were glad to have at least somewhere to sleep that night. I am unable to rate the rest of the guest house as we only got as far as the front door. As you can tell i am extremely dissappointed by this experience but the most annoying part is that the guest house made little or no effort to contact me even though they had access to my telephone number.

“Excellent and comfortable stay”

Onslow Guest House

During my two week stay in the UK this was the best B&B accomodation I stayed in. It is super clean and quiet and the hosts are very helpful and friendly. I had a small single room which was up two flights of stairs and had shared facilities with another single room. The room was small with a domer window and a rather low ceiling, but it was very clean, comfortable and quiet and I slept off my jet-lag very easily. At one point I thought I was the only person staying there when in fact it was a full house.

The breakfast is cooked to order, I was gratified to hear the sound of a whisk when I ordered scrambled eggs. Though Dennistoun may not be considered the most salubrious suburb by Glaswegians, it seemed fine to me. There are several decent eateries on Duke St and the city centre is minutes away by taxi or bus.

    • Disliked — Sometimes I bumped my head on the low ceiling.

Staff couldnt have been more helpful. Rooms were beautiful, very reasonably priced and spotlessly clean.
