“Best little hotel in scotland”

Cairngorm Hotel

The Caringorm Hotel in Aviemore is a dream. Right across from the train station, it looks like a miniture castle. We have stayed there many times, both in summer and in winter. The rooms are nice, though a little dated. The staff is competent and professional and always glad to help. AND the food at the resturant cannot be beat. I get the roast chicken with poatoes, vegtable of the day, skirlie (a onion and oatmeal mix-- try it it's great) and "kilted soldier"- a bacon wrapped link sausage. My husband gets their fish and chips. We've also had the lamb and the roast beef. Always high quality! We won't stay at any other place in Aviemore- even though some have more "stars". Also, for those that enjoy it- the pub has good whiskey and good local entertainment. They even have a piper who plays on the front poarch before dinner.

“Good food”

Cairngorm Hotel

Loved this place. Had been ice climbing and needed somewhere warm and comfortable with good food. This ticked all the boxes. Funny, friendly staff and excellent food. Cracking, lively pub serving good beers and an excellent view up to Cairngorm. Not the best hotel I have ever stayed in, but for the money it certainly is. If you're visiting Aviemore, book this place if you can (it's very popular - for a reason!).

Just spent a week at the Cairngorm Hotel in Aviemore for a walking/scrambling holiday in the Cairngorms. What a wonderful hotel - clean, warm, beautifully laid out, charming staff, delicious food, and not too expensive.

If you want chocolates on your pillow, brass fittings, and characterless 'new'ness, look elsewhere. If you want a true taste of the highlands, I can't recommend it enough.

Good hotel with a very nice atmosphere. Staff was efficient and very helpful. Rooms had all the basics and a good bed. The restaurant served a Scottish buffet, which may not be the most exciting in the world, but it was actually very good. Also breakfast in the morning was good, and the hot dishes served promptly.

“Scottish Highlands Walking Festival”

Cairngorm Hotel

21 May 2006
8/8 found this review helpful

We stayed two nights at the Cairngorm Hotel in Aviemore, Scotland. We went to join the walking Festival and had a lovely time. The hotel is conveniently located across the street from the ScotRail station, yet we never heard the rail in our room. The hotel has a castle like appearance which lends it character and charm. The locals frequent the dining room and pub, as well as visitors staying at the hotel. The community is small and attracts active outdoors people looking to visit the Cairngorm National Park for skiing, hiking (walking as they call it), and boating. The people were very friendly and helpful. The hotel staff was helpful with daily weather reports, rail info, and food recommendations. The hotel food was authentic Scottish. The hotel is walking distance to restaurants, laundry facilities, and churches. The hotel rooms are clean, comfortable, and quiet. Nothing fancy, and reasonably priced. I would stay here again.
