My wife, our two college-age children, and I spent a great three day weekend in Thurso at the Park in late May 2006. This family owned and operated small hotel has a friendly staff and reasonable rates.
The full Scottish breakfast was very ample, obviating the need for much of a lunch. We typically just grabbed something light at the supermarket across the street as we set out for the day. The restaurant is very good and seems to draw in locals as well as those staying in the hotel. We had one evening meal at the hotel. (But see below) The Park strives to have some entertainment on the weekends. We stopped to listen a few minutes late Sunday afternoon.
Rooms are clean, all en suite, and a decent size. We were on the front side of the hotel, so the view was nice (the back does not have a good view), but very little sound from the road when the window was closed.
This is the second year in a row for my wife and me to visit Thurso and the Park. Last year we spent the weekend of Feb 14, experiencing snow, sleet, rain, sun, and gale force winds. The Park remained cozy throughout (except when someone -- a guest -- left the door open one night -- I had to go close and lock it). We ate in the restaurant every evening on that stay and were not disappointed. What can I say...we came back and brought the kids!
