Well, of all the places we stayed in the Highlands, we had our best night here. The room is business-like and comfy (yes, a little like a chain-hotel room in a motel-style building, but definitely above standard for the area), with a great shower, nice bed, good flatscreen telly etc. Parking was ample, and breakfast too - plenty of hot choices on offer, with local ingredients. Would definitely come again (though sadly Thurso itself doesn't really deserve somewhere so nice...)

Sitting on the A9 into Thurso the Park Hotel is handy for business travellers (of which there were many during my stay). The staff were friendly though the young girl who handled my breakfast orders every day had little grasp of English.

I chose the 'Executive' room and was disappointed to find it in a chalet-like annex behind the hotel which meant that I had to endure the smells from the kitchen and the constant hum of the extractor fans (though these were switched off at around 9pm).

Free internet access was available via a network point in the room though this was somewhat broken and didn't readily allow me to unplug my network cable!

The room looked as if it had been recently refurbished but was already beginning to look somewhat used - stains on the desk unit, broken network point etc. The executive rooms boasted LCD TV but this was a moot point as the quality of signal was terrible and the bedside radio was more useful.

I ate in once and had a lamb dish which was quite pleasant though breakfast time must have seen different chefs as the breakfast was awful. By the third day I resorted to just a yogurt as even the coffee was terrible.

If I had to stay in Thurso again I would still stay here though as it seemed to be one of the few hotels that had off-street parking though if I came back late then I'd have to park on the street temporarily as the locals seemed to drive to the hotel for the public bar.

Very friendly staff who make you welcome and bend over backwards to make your stay enjoyable. Rooms are clean, decent sized and well equipped. Food was excellent and breakfast faultless. Lovely atmosphere and, although appears expensive, compared to other hotels in this area is actually very reasonable. Would definitely return.

“Handy for the weary traveller”

We used this Hotel as a convenient place to stop for the night whilst
on business in the far north after a 450 mile drive north.

The staff were lovely - an opinion aided by them reducing our room rate after our arrival!

We stayed in a new annex at the rear which is reached by going outside into the cold. These rooms are very modern and pleasant and our only complaint was that you entered straight from the outside (no porch) which let all the freezing cold winter air in whenever you opened the door.

Food average but without problem.

Reasonable place, good location, reasonable price.

Spent one night at this hotel while travelling around the Highlands, in a family room with my 2 children. The room was not large but space was adequate with a double bed & bunk beds, nicely decorated and very clean. All the staff were very friendly, efficient & hard working, from the warm welcome at check in, in the dining room & in the bar.

We had dinner at the hotel and breakfast in the morning and the food was excellent, large portions and fantastic quality. Staff went out of their way to make sure we had a good stay & made an extra effort with my wee boy who is a very fussy eater. We shall definately go back, for longer next time.

We stayed at a Hilton hotel the following evening and felt the difference, a large impersonal hotel, with mass produced and uninteresting food, service efficient but not attentive.
