Well.
Where to start.
I guess we went there quite simply because we had seen the Gordon Ramsay programme about the food, and wanted to see for ourselves just how it had all turned out.
Essentially, the food was excellent, the service superb, the wine list good but marked up too much, the accomodation above average but uninspired, the location................. fine.
Biggest problem is the space they have in and around the buidings available to them......you are always pretty close to the car park, and although next to the river there are no views to speak of and the whole feel of the builidings/rooms/locale is rather cramped . Everything feels a bit crammed in. Culloden House it isn't and never will be. But Culloden House food is nowhere near as adventurous, interesting, well prepared or well served.
The staff were an intriguing euromix...a cheerful and massively competent bar man ; a knowldgeable sommelier; a courteous waitress.
The chap from London in a previous post suggests there are plenty of other good eating options nearby. Tell me where???!!!!
We only stayed overnight en route from Edinburgh to the far north to fish....and aside from dinner the early morning breakfast was superb......quite simply the most beautiful fried egg in my full Highland I have ever seen. Also a perfect martini prepared by someone who actually knew how to make them ( the night before!!).
Anyway.
Would we stay there again?
Well we would definitely eat there again.
Staying was fine, but I wished I could have woken to a view of something other than my own car in the Julyraindrizzled car park.
