We've been to Culloden 3 times and are going back in October 2007, hoping the Culloden Walk stone we purchased will have been installed. The National Trust for Scotland has done a remarkable job keeping this site pristine, ie, not "disneyizing" it into an excuse for a gift shop. It feels like hallowed ground, standing quietly, realizing how much came to smash there in '46. Seeing what a relatively small area it is, knowing the condition of the Jacobite troops- exhausted, cold, hungry- and knowing what they faced across that field....one cannot help but be moved by the bravery and loyalty of the Highlanders. They gave everything they had, and you can feel their sacrifice, still haunting that moor. If you see nothing else in remarkable Scotland, see Culloden.
