“clean, central, however, average”

Royal Highland Hotel

I booked this hotel at the last minute and on arrival was pleasantly surprised (although given the tariff i wasn't expecting a terrible hotel). However, the first problem to note is the issue of car parking. The hotel would seem to have to none and so you have to park about a 5 minute walk away in a multi-story car park or in the car park for the railway. (i guess it's what to expect with a hotel in the city centre - but it's worth noting in advance).

No staff were attending the desk on arrival and the other staff based in other areas of the hotel simply didn't care. However, after a short wait someone eventually turned up.

The room was clean and i have no complaints about it at all.

However, the 'restaurant' is effectively a few tables around the bar. The staff were mostly foreign (students probably) and the feeling i got on arriving and enquiring as to whether there was a table was one of contempt. We were forced to stand about for several minutes waiting on the member of staff finishing what she was doing first (the one behind the bar couldn't help us for some unknown reason) and then proceeded to clean the table as slowly as possible. The menu itself wasn't terrible - arguably overpriced and unimaginative.

Breakfast was average too - the fruit was all tinned - which was extremely disappointing given the apparent quality of the hotel. No skimmed or semi-skimmed milk either.

All in all, it was average - although i would suggest opting to eat elsewhere as manner we were greeted with in the 'restaurant' was less than friendly.

“A weekend break”

Royal Highland Hotel

My husband and I stayed here for a weekend break and chose the location for convenience as it is very central to the main city shopping area. Generally our experience was a positive one though we found it very noisy on Saturday and Sunday night. We complained to reception and they did apologise but this would put us off going back. In addition to this, we had to leave early on Monday morning and we requested a Continental breakfast the day before. When my husband inquired about it on Monday morning we were told by reception it was not available as the staff had not come in. We did enjoy the food in the resturant and staff were extremely polite and pleasant during our stay

“Lovely hotel”

Royal Highland Hotel

6 Apr 2008

We have just returned from a 3 night break in the Royal Highland Hotel. I honestly cant understand some of the previous reviews we read before booking. The hotel is lovely, yes it is an old building but so what, it adds to the charm. The breakfast is a lovely buffet with all the cereals, pastries, cooked food fruit and yogurts that you could wish for. They serve you tea/coffee and toast to your table. We had the usual tea and coffee in our room as well as 2 bottles of water. There is toiletries in the spotless toilet and plenty of clean towels. The restaurant is very good and not at all pricey. We will certainly go back.

“great location, Great entrance and lobby, but needs work upstairs”

Royal Highland Hotel

6 Apr 2008

this hotel looks very grand from the outside and in the lobby,

the staff are friendly, and helpfull.

but breakfast is a help yourself affair which really did detract from the rest of the experience.

overall this is an OK hotel but as i found out after there are better for cheaper not too far away

my only other issue is that the rooms do look dated, the bathrooms have been updated and would say that everything was clean, but dated.

This hotel is well situated, right in the town centre.

The reception was not great and the room fairly poor for this kind of hotel. Not very clean, old and a bit dirty.

Average breakfast also.

Not great experience
