Theres really nothing I can say about this hotel that others haven't already said (or written)
Beautiful Building and grounds
Comfortable rooms with a wierd shower enclosure in the older part of the hotel
Fine dining with a service that lets them down just a tiny bit, at fair prices.
Very fair bar prices
The only things to note..
It is 2 miles from the rail station in the city and thus about £5-6 taxi ride and you do need to get into the beautiful city of Inverness, if you are planning on visiting inverness using public transport, this may not be the hotel for you, it's just that bit too far out of town.
The 2 miles in question however is a beautiful walk on a fine day with 2/3 of it following the river Ness then a short hill.
Sadly there is nothing to see immediately near to the hotel, a few pleasant houses which invariably are adjacent to the most hideous bunkers in Scotland, we found no cafe's, bars or anything other than a football pitch, and just one shop.
The other side of this of course is the peace, at night with the window wide open, the loudest noise to be heard is the pipes of this old establishment when the man in the next room flushes the loo, and even that noise whispers it's presence as if to pay respect to the sleepy surroundings.
The only other tip I'll give you is shop around for a price.
I paid £80 for the room, the man next door paid £130+ for his and we booked on the same day, a quick trawl on the internet show prices between 80 and 168 so it is worth haggling, even though there are obviously different levels of accomodation.
The staff are worthy of a mention too
The guys are jolly, jovial, welcoming professionals and the ladies are absolute honeys, not just in appearance, but in attitude and a genuine desire to help make your stay something very special.
I found myself in inverness during the heatwave of July 2006 and of four hotels I stayed in, this was the only one to have put a fan in the room, the attention to the needs of it's customers set this hotel apart from the others, all of which incidentally have been superb.
I am working in the highlands but now I can see why people come back here again and again, the scenery is stunning on a massive scale, the buildings are straight from a postcard but the service industry here is just fantastic, taxi drivers, shop workers and restauranteurs all make you want to come back and the Lochardil House is an absolute beacon of hospitality.
Wonderful
