Absolutely a wonderful place to stay. We were in the new, garden wing, and in addition to an extremely comfortable, clean, spacious, and modern room, we had a walk-out onto our own terrace overlooking the gardens. For those of you who care, the bathroom was magnificent. I didn't see the rooms in the older part of the hotel but the lobby, bar, and meeting rooms oozed tradition and comfort. We dined under a glass enclosure with great views of the garden. The staff was courteous, friendly, and helpful.
The only negative we could see was the need for a car. The hotel is a bit far out to walk into the historic district of Inverness although apparently it is on the bus line to downtown.
We have visited Scotland three times in the last five years and travelled quite extensively around the country, always trying to find interesting but comfortable hotels. Without any doubt the Lochardil House is the best we've encountered. We would return to Inverness just to stay there again.
