This hotel does not have its own car park. You either have to be lucky enough to get one of the pay and display places on the street or use the public car park a street or two away. In addition to this, at the time we were there, the public car park tickets expired at 8am the next morning meaning that you had to be sure you were up in time to move your car or get a penalty ticket.
The room we stayed overlooked the river and had recently undergone some sort of refurbishment - a case of design over function. The TV was fixed at an awkward angle which made it impossible to view comfortably from the seating in the room. There were several faux leather storage boxes - completely impractical and not much else in the way of proper storage. There was a heavy fire door between the bedroom and the bathroom which needed both hands to open it. In the bathroom itself there was nowhere to hang towels/bathrobe. The shower head was placed so high that it drenched every surface each time it was used, despite the shower curtain being pulled across.
When we went down to the restaurant for dinner in the evening, it was totally chaotic. We were kept waiting despite having booked and there didn't appear to be enough staff to cope with demand. When we finally got our table the serving was bizarre - our starters were brought to the table but we had to queue up for our main courses in a cafeteria style and many items were not available.
We were so disappointed and annoyed that we left the next morning, a day early. We would never stay at the Columba again.

Although our rooms were unavailable due to a "leakage condition", the manager of the Columba Hotel couldn't do enough for us. When the first alternative hotel proved unacceptable, she bought us dinner and drinks while she tried to find us another hotel. Eventually she got us rooms at a sister hotel a few miles away, the Newton in Nairn, which was magnificent! Highly commended!

Oh dear, i will in future check tripadvisor before booking a hotel. I can't really put into words how shocking our stay was at this hotel but i'll give it a go. Firstly, my husband and i have 1 daughter (5 years old) which proved problematic as we were told by the bar staff that kids were not allowed in the bar after 8pm. It was only 6.30 at the time and the bar is where they serve evening meals and to make matters worse it was deserted!!!!! This wasn't mentioned in any of the literature that the hotel provided and we pointed this out we were told that was the managers policy. Asked to speak to the manager (not available) spoke with the duty manager who quite frankly was rude and obnoxious. Thus, when 8pm duly arrived the bar-maid with a smug look on her face told us our daughter would have to leave the bar. At this time there were 3 people in the bar. When we said we wouldn't be leaving until we finished our coffees and perhaps another drink she informed us that she would not be serving us as long as our daughter was in the bar area. I was speechless. We left the bar area and went to our room as there were no other facilities in the hotel. The following day we asked to speak to the manager as we were checking-out but he wasn't available only the same duty-manager. We let him know our dis-satisfaction but he shrugged his shoulders, turned round and walked away.
