My boyfriend and I stayed in this hotel in April '07. This was our first break away and so it was booked as a romantic break where a bottle of champagne was meant to be there on arrival, and robes and slippers. The receipt we received upon check-in confirmed this.Unfortunately this was not the case, there was a bottle of warm fizzy wine which wasn't pleasant to drink at all. NO robes! NO slippers! The decoration was dreary and dull and in need of renovation. The room we had was above the alleyway beside the hotel and as a result of the noise we had to keep the windows closed to allow us to sleep.
The pictures look lovely looking out onto the river but please not these are rare and you have to pay a premium to stay in one. We booked on a DBB basis and the food served was shocking (poor choice and strange combinations). I have tasted better from a camping stove. The breakfast was terrible (cold, overcooked, was not replenished even though we were down 45mins before the end of service) and the staff were more interested in talking to each other rather than serving any customers.
However, the location is very central and some of the restaurants in the area are fantastic. I would recommend Inverness and the walk up the river is lovely on a dry day but I will never return to this hotel.
