Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

Charming Self Catering Cottage - We will definitely stay again 😀
What a wonderful Gem we have found here. From the moment we booked the Owner Barbara was extremely helpful and very knowledgeable of the area. We stayed in the Barn for 1 week and found everything in this self catering unit was of a high standard and had been well thought out. We liked the environmentally friendly approach. The log burner together with the underfloor heating in the bathrooms made the cottage very cosy. The barn was fully equipped with everything you need so all you need to do is bring your own food. Barbara emailed me a list of all local shops and petrol stations nearby. She also provided us with a list of popular sightseeing excursions we might like to do. In the accommodation there was a big black folder of exciting things to do aswell and we used it on more than one occasion. I will definitely come back as we absolutely fell in love with the area and people. On our last day I left my lights on and ran my battery down!!!! I thought I would have to call the AA. However Grandad came to my rescue and saved the day!! Thank you all so much for making our stay so wonderful.

Thank you for your 5 star review! We are so pleased that you had a wonderful holiday in the Barn cottage and found it cosy with the wood burning stove. It's great to hear that you found the information folders useful for exploring the Highlands - there's so much to see and do! We look forward to welcoming you back to Balblair Self Catering Cottages in the future. Best wishes, Barbara & family

Peaceful, cosy stay in an Excellent cottage!
My husband and I stayed in the Byre cottage over the New Year period. The weather was very kind to us although it was very cold. This is not a problem when staying at the Byre as the cottage was lovely and warm all the time. The accomodation is of a high standard and certainly comparable to the 4 star that we always stay in. We were warmly welcomed by Barbara and there were some lovely treats left for us. The bathroom is lovely and modern with constant hot water. The kitchen is well equipped. The wifi works well. There is a lovely view from the front door and Inverness and Nairn are only a short drive from the cottage. The area is breathtakingly beautiful and there is lots to do and see. The cottage itself is in a very peaceful location. We would highly recommend -very good value for money! Thank you!

A truly wonderful place
My husband and I stayed in The Bothy during the final week of our honeymoon. It was fantastic! The Bothy is in a great location, peaceful, wonderful views and ideally located for exploring the surrounding area. We were made to feel very welcome by Barbara and her family. The cottage is well-equipped having everything you could ever imagine you will need on a self catering holiday. We were sad to leave and will definitely be back.

Excellent facilities in a tranquil setting
We stayed at the Byre for 2 weeks and thoroughly enjoyed it. Great care had been taken to provide a very comfortable, extremely well equipped and spotless holiday let. It was warm, comfortable and had lovely views towards the Moray Firth. It is an excellent location to go off exploring along the coast, shopping and eating out in Inverness and just a lovely quiet location to relax if that is what you are looking for. Barbara the owner was very friendly and made sure that we had everything that we needed. The log fire was a real bonus, although the storage heaters kept us cosy and warm throughout our stay. I would certainly recommend Balblair Holiday Cottages, and will be staying with Barbara again next time we are in the Inverness area. Thank you Barbara for making us so welcome x
