“Not the best or worst”

Quality Hotel Station Perth

5 Jun 2008

We arrived on the saturday night and there was a large queue, there was a foreign girl on reception who didnt seem to understand what was happening. she called her boss at home who arrived within minutes to assist. We eventually got checked into our room. We went to our room and found that the room was dirty. We went back to reception and spoke to the deputy manager who explained the hotel was full and could not move us. I explained that I was not prepared to stay there and his answer was I have had enough of the [--] in here I cant do anything to change it sorry. We went back to our room to pack and my partner was very angry so he called reception and spoke to Lindsey who explained she wasnt aware of the situation but would be up to our room to check it. She arrived at the room and agreed that it was not up to standard and assured she would speak to the cleaners. She then gave us a key for another room which she had checked and said was a clean and comfortable room which I can only agree she was correct.

We then went for dinner but were told there is a group of 30 in just now so we cant serve you for 45 minutes. We decided we would complain yet again about the service to be faced yet again with the deputy manager who informed us that if we wanted to be served quickly and professionally we had to wait for the 5 waitresses who were serving the group of 30. We walked past reception and Lindsey asked if we were not having dinner and once we explained what had happened she had us a table with a waitress within minutes.

The bar was not as clean as you would have expected with a barman more interested in going for cigarettes. The bar was quite busy with young lads. After talking to them they were telling us of all their problems over the weeks they had been staying and surprise surprise they had the same problems as us. They actually commented that if you wanted any customer service or had any problems the only person who helped or seemed to care was Lindsey and that her days off were met with managers saying wait for Lindsey to return and she will fix it. Can I just say that if it hadnt been for this young girl I think you would have no customers. She is a fantastically friendly and polite young girl who goes out of her way to assist and I personally think she is wasted in a hotel of that standard.

We were informed on check out by Lindsey that the cleaners had passed on their apologies and that she would ensure this would never happen again which was a nice gesture as normally you complain and never hear the outcome. I would give this hotel a chance but if your going just make sure you check your room and try not to be there when there is a group in.

All in all this would be a nice hotel if money was spent on the rooms and restaurant but it does depend what room you get or maybe who cleaned it but our second room was fantastic.

I would reccommend this hotel still as I think it is just having teething problems (albeit a few years too late)

“Room was fine. Staff and food could be improved”

I stayed here as part of a works conference. I stayed in a double room which was spacious, comfortable and clean. The breakfast was fine, with continental and cooked options. The lunch and dinner options were limited, in low supply and of poor quality. We had a small amount of salad, macaroni cheese and chips as options. They ran out very quickly, with no additional options for those who had not yet been fed.

I did get the impression that the staff were poorly motivated and miserable....if you do stay here, be nice to them. They look like they need it.

If you stay here, I would recommend eating out. Also, if you go under the bridge and walk about 100m ahead, there is a lovely park.

This place is a JOKE!!. We booked 10 days prior to arrival via Laterooms.com. Upon arrival we were informed that there had been an overbooking - Apparently this is an ongoing problem with this hotel. Thankfully we managed to book into The SalutationHotel as we were attending a dinner at Dewer Centre. More than 4 people were in a similiar situation as ourselves the short time we stood at reception. Avoid this hotel at all costs.

From the other reviews, we had some trepidation about staying here. But as the budget for this trip was tight and the room was £33 for the night including breakfast, we went for it. And we were mostly lucky. Got off to a great start: check-in was welcoming, enthusiastic and efficient and the room was very large, warm and well decorated and the bed was comfortable. Looked out over the road, but was set back and quiet. Bathroom was also in good condition except for the heat control on the shower which was defective, but could be managed with a little initiative. Breakfast was good in the restaurant downstairs. Checkout was the let-down on this one: reporting the shower problem was met with total indifference - in fact, it took me back to travelling in eastern Europe in the 1980s - one had the feeling that reporting a problem was a major offence and didn't even break the boredom of being on reception. The response could have been a recorded one "we apologise for the inconvenience". Here, the hotel management should take a LOT more care in staff training vis-à-vis customers...

I was looking for a cheap overnight stay in Perth onroute to the South. I did my research on Trip Advisor and settled on the Quality Hotel even though the reviews are bad. I paid £35 for the room from laterooms.com and could not find anything to beat that.

Check in was smooth and the man on reception was friendly and helpful. Decor in the main areas is dated.

The room was dated but clean. The room overlooked the train station but was very quiet.

We did not use the restaurant or bar at all. We ate at a lovely restaurant in town - Karachers - great if you are a fan of fish! Much recommended!

I would recommend this hotel if like us you simply want a bed and a shower at a cheap rate and nothing else!
