I've just returned from a business trip to Perth and stayed here for one night.
On the whole the hotel was OK however, I wouldn't stay here again giventhe choice.
It is centrally located but no car park other than a pay and display round the corner. After 6pm this is free but I am used to staying somewhere where I can park on site, not have to lug my suitcase down a busy street.
I was given a room on the top floor which faced onto the main street. The hotel was fully booked as I was part of a party there for a careers fair. The room was basic but appeared to be clean. The first thing I noticed was the traffic noise. The windows do nothing to deaden the noise and it is incessant. Not only this but when HGV's or buses go past the floor actually vibrates.
Into the bathroom I went and as you turn on the light the fan comes on however, with it a nasty smell fills the room. It honestly smells like there is a dead rat in there. IT was clean enough but tiny, the bath seal was coming off and dirt had gotten underneath. There were splashes of others shower gel on the wall. Having driven up, covering some 300 miles I was too tired to complain and I'm sure something would have been done as the hotel appears to be very well run.
The bed was terrible really. I had a double but it sunk in the middle. The sheets had what appeared to be pen on them too making me wonder if they'd been changed prior to my arrival.
The water pressure is non too good either and you either get a huge gush or nothing at all when trying to take a bath or shower.
I had dinner in the hotel and this seems to be very well priced for what you get. I had a 3 course for around £16 and the food is of good quality, not excellent or outstanding but decent, eatable food. As I'd had a long trip, a few glasses of wine knocked me out in the end so I wasn't kept awake by traffic noise but it was still there in the morning. You can hear everything along with early morning deliveries.
Watch out for the TV/Radio volume dials in the bathroom and the fact that Channel 1 on the TV is actually channel 4, channel 5 is BBC1, Channel 4 is ITV1 and so on - I got so confused I gave up in the end.
If I'd had a different room then maybe it would have been better but sometimes first impressions count for a lot so I won't stay again but it was cheap enough, the location was good for where I needed to be the next day and the food was good.
Apparently there is an older hotel just up the road which has recently been refurbished - this is the better one after talking to people who stayed at the Salutation last year and switched to the other one this year and just joined us for the meal. I'd do yourself a favour and go to the other one too - I shall next time I'm in that neck of the woods.
