Having seen the website I booked a nights accomodation for myself and 5 friends. The webstie protrayed a lovely boutique hotel. The problems started when we arrived and it took 10 mins for someone to arrive at reception. When a polish chap arrived he tried to help but didn't really seem to know which 3 rooms were ours. A chef appeared and openly blasted the Polish chap in front of us. This was definitely uncalled for. We were then shown to our rooms. I had ordered a double room and when I was shown a twin room I complained. They said they would push the 2 single beds together. I was not happy with that and was finally after some arguing shown to a double room. The rooms were in a quite poor state and the shower didn't work at all. For the money the place is below standard, and it really isn't a nice place at all. The website doesn't show people what to expect at all. Very disappointed, will never go back.

It could have been a nice stay if we had a different room. Ours was above the public bar and the locals kept us awake until it closed at half past midnight. Do not stay in rooms 8 or 9

Breakfast was a nicely cooked buffet, similar to that in some of the more expensive hotels around the UK

The bath had been repaired with a small section of fibreglass resin - couldn't afford a new one? The bedroom was on the small side with very little room to walk between the bottom of the bed and the window.

Price quoted on visit scotland was not the price they wanted me to pay. We eventually compromised. We didn't get any refund for the poor night's sleep.

Although it is up a hill (as quoted in a previous review) it isn't too far from the main street/road and it does have it's own parking. Scotland is one of those hilly kind of places so hilly walks are to be expected.

I noted that this hotel was dearer than some of the other "classier" ones but in peak season it seemed to be the only room available.

I wish I had camped instead (we were doing a bit of both) as we'd have saved some money and had a better nights sleep

We stayed for three day's in this charming hotel. We arrived much to late due to the fact that our boat ( from Holland to Scotland) was delayed because of technical problems. The owners were very friendly and helpfull. Our room was clean and well kept during our stay. We had a buffet-breakfast which we liked very much. The staff was correct and friendly, the only thing was that the Thai girls could improve their English. We dined two times at the hotel and the food was very good. The owner and his wife were very friendly to all the guests and had nice conversations with each of them. We had a very pleasant stay.

We were a group of 6 friends travelling together and the hotel was booked following checking out the Scottish tourism site. Unfortunately the friend who made the booking had never heard of tripadvisor.com. The hotel is not in the centre of town and involves a fair uphill walk to get to it. It is not in the best state of repair, whilst in the bar, water leaked through the ceiling from rooms above and a bucket was quickly produced without fuss as if this was a normal occurence, many of the armchairs and settees in the lounge and bar are thread worn with the holes and tears covered with throws. The room given to my partner and I was in the Annexe, a bungalow built in the grounds. Whilst it was generally clean, the furniture and fittings in the room were definitely not up to hotel standard with a strange worktop and rickety cupboard / wardrobe arrangement along one wall. The television in the room had no remote control and only operated on one channel. The Alsatian dog mentioned in another review was kept in what seemed to be staff accomodation within the annexe and he frequently voiced his opinion as to his incarceration.
There was one young lady who seemed to be the receptionist, barmaid and restaurant manager and her work rate and constant smile were commendable, I could not help feeling that her employer was taking advantage of her and she was left to do everything. She was assisted by two young ladies of Thai origin who were very charming in their own way but their inability to speak basic English meant that the meals produced were not as ordered but the errors were corrected. The food was adequate to reasonable and was enjoyed by all but unfortunately was not good enough to be the reason to return to the Rosemount again.
I was told by a tour guide that the owner has the hotel up for sale so perhaps this is the reason for the lack of investment in the structure and furnishings.
We only stayed the one night, if we had booked for longer I think we would have checked out and relocated, there is definitely better accomodation in Pitlochry than this hotel.

On the plus side - the room was clean and the bar and dining area have been recently refurbished to a high standard.

Bad points - really poor quality sausages and bacon for breakfast - UNFORGIVABLE given the host of top quality butchers within walking distance of the hotel! The staff were not particularly welcoming or proactive in serving guests - a bit like wall flowers.

Overall - I wish I'd booked the Poplars instead.
