We were a group of 6 friends travelling together and the hotel was booked following checking out the Scottish tourism site. Unfortunately the friend who made the booking had never heard of tripadvisor.com. The hotel is not in the centre of town and involves a fair uphill walk to get to it. It is not in the best state of repair, whilst in the bar, water leaked through the ceiling from rooms above and a bucket was quickly produced without fuss as if this was a normal occurence, many of the armchairs and settees in the lounge and bar are thread worn with the holes and tears covered with throws. The room given to my partner and I was in the Annexe, a bungalow built in the grounds. Whilst it was generally clean, the furniture and fittings in the room were definitely not up to hotel standard with a strange worktop and rickety cupboard / wardrobe arrangement along one wall. The television in the room had no remote control and only operated on one channel. The Alsatian dog mentioned in another review was kept in what seemed to be staff accomodation within the annexe and he frequently voiced his opinion as to his incarceration.
There was one young lady who seemed to be the receptionist, barmaid and restaurant manager and her work rate and constant smile were commendable, I could not help feeling that her employer was taking advantage of her and she was left to do everything. She was assisted by two young ladies of Thai origin who were very charming in their own way but their inability to speak basic English meant that the meals produced were not as ordered but the errors were corrected. The food was adequate to reasonable and was enjoyed by all but unfortunately was not good enough to be the reason to return to the Rosemount again.
I was told by a tour guide that the owner has the hotel up for sale so perhaps this is the reason for the lack of investment in the structure and furnishings.
We only stayed the one night, if we had booked for longer I think we would have checked out and relocated, there is definitely better accomodation in Pitlochry than this hotel.

On the plus side - the room was clean and the bar and dining area have been recently refurbished to a high standard.

Bad points - really poor quality sausages and bacon for breakfast - UNFORGIVABLE given the host of top quality butchers within walking distance of the hotel! The staff were not particularly welcoming or proactive in serving guests - a bit like wall flowers.

Overall - I wish I'd booked the Poplars instead.

Awful place. At 6 months pregnant my partner and I arrived here and were greeted by a barking alsation. It was a good ten minutes after I rang the bell the second time before anyone came to the reception. I was allocated a tiny room with a cupboard as an en-suite which had a sliding door that didnt come near closing.
The following morning when I went to pay for my room I discovered that they had taken the money off my account the day before. At breakfast I had to play a guessing game with the waitress who hadn't a clue what they had to offer. I have since discovered that the "double room" I paid for is what the hotel is advertising as a single room, so basically I was overcharged. be wary.

“Clean, Friendly but needs more staff!”

Rosemount Hotel

24 Sep 2006

We arrived at the Rosemount for a weekend break. The hotel is lovely and clean and our room had an excellent view. We were joined by a coach-load of travellers from Hull who were lovely people. However the only down-side is that the hotel have too few staff covering too many jobs. Granted they only recently took on another three staff from the Czech republic - the barperson who only started last night being one of them. Lovely guy but didnt know where anything was - it was quite funny really as all the guests at the bar had to tell him where everything was. The cheery new Scottish assistant was lovely, as was the young lady who is leaving shortly. One other word of caution - although the food is adequate please don't expect anything too grand and the chef really needs to have a wee lesson in cooking roast tatties. All in all we would not rule out another visit when the new staff have settled in.

“A nasty taste in my mouth, and smell!”

This was a downwards spiral from the second we walked in. I was in the area for work and booked her for four days. The minute we walked in the door we were told how much the guy behind the desk hated his job in very broken english. That evening I accidently flooded my bath, Not a problem as i was prepared to pay for damages. I was told by the polish guy on the desk it would be hundreds and i was unable to see the damage. The morning after the incident, where house maids burst into my room whilst i was changing out of wet clothes, therefore naked and they did not knock, just looked at me, shouted and tutted, i went to reception to talk to proprietor. This was terrible, the lady screamed and shouted so much that the poor guy answering the phones could barley hear himself. She said i was an silly lady!!!! She then again said i was not aloud to see damage but proceeded to charge me £15????!!! Then we got out bills, it was obvious we were with a company, and she kept trying to push extra charges as she knew the company would pay. But she charged a double room with two people in each. There were two of us in a room each, she once again tutted and shook her head and said "this wont do, and really we were just scoring points after what happened in the bathroom" (which had been paid for by this time) She tried to charge us £350 extra. and managed to get part of out of us, as my colleague was told sign a form with my details four times, otherwise ws not aloud a key, this was done under protest! We needed to get out of there fast. On my last morning, i went to breakfast alone, an d was not offered tea or coffee and when someone pointed it out to the lady she said i was not waiting!!! Two weeks later I returned to the area to pick up some clothing I had left, I was told it was thrown as it is not policy to keep it, this is after the lady got my work details by going through my room to find out HQ address and calling them to complain about my accident. Trading Standards, Citizens Advice and tourist boards are now all involved! This is an unclean Faulty Towers
