“Comfortable Scottish Hotel”

Birchwood

We came to the Birchwood for our honeymoon, and it was very pleasant. John and Viv were welcoming and generous. Nice bedroom, gleaming ensuite bathroom. All in all very comfortable and Scottish. The breakfasts were the real highlight for me. Juice, Scottish porridge, bacon, sausage, egg, tomato, black pudding, coffee, all of it perfectly prepared. John was extremely amenable, coming up with a Scrabble board on request.

The Birchwood is an excellent small hotel. Some other reviewers have noted that the decor is a little dated, and this is true, although it is very much in keeping with the character of the building itself. For example, I wouldn't have the wallpaper in my
house, but it's absolutely fine in a hotel room and it adds to the old-fashioned grandeur (I'm 33 by the way, I normally stay in designer boutique type places).
If you normally stay in big sanitised chain hotels you will not find the bathroom, TV etc up to your usual standards. However everything is immaculately clean and works properly.
The owners and staff are lovely, very helpful and friendly and they certainly make you feel welcome.
We didn't eat in the restaurant in the evening but the menu looked very good, and I have to say this is the best hotel cooked breakfast I have ever eaten. No huge portions, no unnecessary rubbish like baked beans or hash browns, just good quality ingredients cooked to perfection.
I can thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Stayed here for one night. Hotel is fairly small and a short walk from the main street/shopping area of Pitlochery.
Room was large and clean, but alittle dated, also (if you wished to watch it) the TV could have done with being abit bigger - it was small and in an alcove.
Breakfast was good.
Overall, a good hotel at a fair price.

The Birchwood was a very nice hotel and we had a lovely stay, however brief. The room was very clean and very large and the beds quite comfy. The only complaint I had was the hotel was a little musty.

We spent 2 nights here and loved it! The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are spotless and nicely decorated. The hotel is perfectly situated in the centre of the town.
